Canadian Insurance Question

In the US they can't raise your rates for comprehensive claims. My inclination is that up here in the expensive white north that's not true, can someone confirm? Yes, my windshield is cracked. I was talking to my insurance agent about our other car, and he mentioned it was only an extra $30 per year per vehicle to drop from a $500 deductible on collision and $300 on comp to zero on both. This seems like a good deal to me, but I guess it largely depends on what happens to my rates if I start making a glass claim every year...

My wife's a Claims adjuster so she's gonna write a little shpiel!

Depending on who your broker is, there could be an increase in premiums for multiple comp claims. This is usually determined by the underwriters. say, 3 comp claims in one year...kinda high risk...perhaps there could be a premium increase.
As for deductibles...they are there for a reason, they show you have a vested interest in the vehicle, I don't know of any companies that offer zero deductibles, however I deal in Alberta which is a similiar insurance system, but not entirely the same. Your best advice would come from your broker.

Re: Canadian Insurance Question

Thats strange, because I was initially told for a $100 deductible it would be $89 per year more. Then when I went to confirm I had the new FJ they upped my windshield to $500 deductible and quoted me $300+ a year if I wanted to drop it to $250. This is all while my wife's Beetle still has the $100 deductible and costs $23 per year....makes you wonder whether the insurance boys ar onto the cost of replacing the FJ windshield and made the adjustments.

I know we have made 2 claims on my wifes beetle and the comp rates have not gone up....I deal with TD Insurance.

Re: Canadian Insurance Question

I was surprised by the small increase to drop the deduct... Not something I was planning to ask about, but we purchased a new car for my wife this week, and the agent mentioned it was only $30 to drop it to a zero deductible for her new one. Out of curiosity I asked about the FJ and it as the same. Needless to say I went ahead & did it. Having said that I did not specifically make sure it covered the glass (will do so), but it seemed insanely cheap anyways.

Re: Canadian Insurance Question

In Saskatchewan my deductible is $100 for windshield...I just got everything changed, so I'm not sure the exact costs yet. I'm sure this week I should get something in the mail. Here they have that Saskatchewan Government Insureance thing (SGI) and after living here for 4 years, I still have no idea what it's about! lol
