Toronto Area Windshield Repair

I've had my Fj since Sept 1 2006 - now have 1 rock chip (about a 1 inch star) and I have a 5 inch crack that just started (nowhere near the chip). I have these guys Auto glass, windshield replacement, windshield repair - certified professionals with over 5 years of experience
coming tomorrow who claim to be able to repair anything under a 10inch crack. I was quoted $100 for both repairs and they come right to the house to do it. I'll snap some before and after pics and let you know how the experience goes. My comp deductible is $500 and they will deduct the repair charge from the deductible if I'm not satisfied with their work - we'll see how it goes.

My chip repair seemed ok, but then on a really cold morning it cracked almost the full width. I've heard other people have better luck. $100 is a good price for multiple repairs, I think the refunding repairs if they don't 'take' is pretty standard...

Re: Toronto Area Windshield Repair

I have had a chip repair around $30 in Concord and only was visible if you knew it was there. I recently had a big circular break from a huge rock and know that its time for replacement. I am sure that rock that size would have broke any windshield.

I recently pulled up aside a silver FJ in Aurora area and noticed the same style break in almost the same location.

Yeah we'll see, guy is due here in 30 minutes. If it saves me from shelling out the $500 for 6 months I'll consider it a win. It's actually more the hassle of the replacement (trim, moulding, clips etc) that I'd like to avoid.

Re: Toronto Area Windshield Repair

Well the pictures didn't really show much but the guy did a great job on both the crack and rock star - you can just barely see the crack (they indicated a hairline would remain after repair) and gave a written warranty on both repairs for the lifetime of the truck.

The more interesting part was that the guy showed up and said "yep, about the 10th FJ cruiser I've fixed this month". Given that I live in the 5th largest city in North America and I've seen maybe 4 other FJs in the 6 months I've had mine --- where the hell are they all hiding? I've only seen 3 or 4 other folks from Toronto on this board....hmmmm.

I'll see how long the repairs hold and let post up if they fail.

Re: Toronto Area Windshield Repair

They have quite a few locations. I will give them a call this week to see if they can do anything with my cluster of circular cracks.

I typically see two every morning during my commute to work in Toronto from my home in Milton. Just in Milton alone I have seen several, then again it's not as urban out here.

Come March 1st there will be one more FJ on the 401 highway as I take possession of my Black Diamond.
