Hey all...this may have been discussed already, but I didn't find it. I was curious as to what brand of gas (Shell, Esso, etc.) people use and whether or not it actually affects mpg at all. I heard rumors that Shell is actually the better choice for gas mileage...any truth to that?
I stick with Shell or Chevron. (most common around here) I like the 'shell' design on the Shell sign and I think Chevron's colors are most patriotic. Texaco is too evil with all that Black and Red.
Seriously, though. I haven't had any issues with mileage or problems with either...ever. We had many issues with running Union 76 gas in our '04 Jeep GC...it would hiccup and sputter a lot...switched to any other gas and it cleared up. Needless to say, we don't take the FJ, Prius, or Miata there!

It would be great if I had a clue, but let's face it, that's just not gonna happen.
Canadian Tire gas bar for their CT money! The amount of times I have to fill this thing up I might as well get 'paid' for it. I fill both our vehicles up their and by the end of the year, we have about $ 200 - 250 of their CT money. Then we buy something big from Canadian Tire around Christmas for the house, like a large microwave oven or small fridge. But the clerks hate counting all that CT money when you walk up to the till with it!

I fill up all over, Shell, Esso, Petro Can, no change in MPG. The weather is the biggest factor. So far with a warm week, I might get 19MPG on this tank in city driving. When it was cold, it got 15MPG.

Re: Brand of gas?
In most places, all the gasoline in every station comes from the same refinery. The major oil companies add their own proprietary additive package at the refinery or bulk plant, but it only amounts to a few parts per million. The biggest difference between stations is how clean they keep their underground storage tanks. Time was when the major oil companies had more strict standards for how much condensed water could be at the bottom of the tank and etc., not sure if it still that way now. Your best chance of getting fresh clean gasoline is to buy from a station that is busy and sells a lot of gas, thus insuring good turnover in the storage tanks.
