Sorry But another windshield comment and Question

So on my way home form the mall this afternoon......woah uhm I meant to say…. on my way home from riding the trails this afternoon....I am heading up 97th street (6 lane road) and the Edmonton city bus that is driving in the far right lane decides to start driving down the shoulder of the road.

I'm about 3 car lengths and one lane to the left from him when the car to my right and one car length in front of me immediately starts braking and the next the you know my FJ is getting pebbled to death by all the rocks this f'ing bus is throwing up. Of course one hits on the passenger side just a 1/4 inch from the bottom of the windshield and bang I have a nice 2 in crack in the windshield already.....

I was thinking of calling the Edmonton Transit complaint line and seeing what they will do....which I bet is absolutely nothing......2 months old, 2,400 kilometres and I have a cracked windshield....man am I pissed.....

Anybody have a quick and easy way to stop the crack before I get to the windshield repair place in the morning?

I had a similar crack (about 7 inches long total) and a star crack (two separate incidents) sealed and so far it has held through winter. Much cheaper than my deductible and guaranteed not to spread.

And get this done as quickly as you can. The cleaner the "wound" the better the chances, yes only chances, that it will stop growing. Even with it "repaired" it may spread. Sorry to tell you that, but get it done. Get it repaired immediately for any chance!

Re: Sorry But another windshield comment and Question

Do a search of this site on "ClearPlex". It's a clear protective coating that prevents rock damage. I installed it on my FJ after three rock hits, resulting in a new windshield. BTW, good luck even finding a new windshield anytime soon, but you'll need a new one before you install the ClearPlex.

For more info, you'll need to PM me. Not a dealer. Just happy with the product.

Re: Sorry But another windshield comment and Question

Thanks Steve, I will definitely do that search. I went to the windshield surgeons this morning and they would not even touch it because the bulls-eye is too cloase to the ege of the glass and the crack is too far gone.....I maight try another place that is not open today on Monday. The guy told me on the phone that he can fix just about any crack in a windshield for about $50.....hmmmm

Have a great day folks....go my Oznium LED's in yesterday and will be putting in some extra lighting under the hood, dash and overhead....stay tuned for pic's and thoughts......

Re: Sorry But another windshield comment and Question

Update,
I sent the Edmonton Transit System an e-mail complaint registering the number of the bus the route and the drivers description as well as the time and place where the rock hit my windshield.

Got an e-mail back that night providing me with a claim number, had a visit last night by a commissionaire for the transit system. He took pictures of the cracked windshield (which now goes from one side of the windshield to the other. Just below my line of sight). He also gave me a yellow slip with a file number.
He said he just needs to interview the bus driver and the claim will be finished and I should be able to replace the windshield next week...at thier expense.

Wow am I ever floored.....the other guy next to me must have lodged a complaint too for it to happen this fast...I will see if I can get a windshield and the real cost of installing in the next week.....I will post the results....

call a windshield, crack or star repair place, my insurance covers this and they will come to you (mobile) and do the repair, luckily the Fj if the first vehicle in a long time that we have not had to have this done to yet!(knock on wood!) as long as it does not reach the edge of the window it can be repaired. Good luck
