Looking to buy 285 BFG AT's for Stock FJ any advice?

My dealer says that the stock FJ can handle 285 BFG AT's but I would like to make sure. I have noticed in a few of the threads that some people have installed lift kits or new front suspension. Is that neccessary for the 285's and will I be limited to 265's if I keep my new baby stock?

Also where have fellow canucks found the best price for these tires and what did they get for trading in their stock tires?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Waiting on my Voodoo Blue AT C Pakage to arrive!

I wanted Bridgestone Revos & our local tire dealer was miles better on them than the Toyota dealer. He took the Dunlops in on trade & gave me good pricing. Since I wasn't changing sizes I didn't bother to change the spare.

Thanks Albemarle. What did your local tire guy offer you for the Dunlops. Around here they are only offering $35-50 per tire. What do you think of upsizing to the 285's without a lift?

Re: Looking to buy 285 BFG AT's for Stock FJ any advice?

I paid $200 each CAD for the Bridestone Revo tires installed so was very happy. No idea on larger size. I guaranteed under 250 km on the Dunlops. I think there is a thread about someone being successful with 285 but he is really marginal with fender gap at the rear. But it's the search function from h*ll so good luck finding it.

My gut feeling is a lift kit is in order. How important are 285s to what you want to do?

Here's the thread with a discussion on 285s

will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Thanks again Albemarle, that thread was great. I'm still not sure if I will go with the 285's or stick to the 265's in the BFG's.

Thanks cville, seems about the price they are willing to give for the stock tires. What did you put on your FJ?
