Well it happened

Royally pissed at the city of edmonton right now. thursday nov 29th i was heading west bound on yellowhead approaching the 142nd st intersection. Little did i know, a waterpipe had broken and flooded the intersection creating a massive sheet of black ice. long story short.. my 2 month old fj has been in an accident. Unfortunately the city can't be held responsible for not putting up any method of warnings about the intersection, but i put a nice verticle crease in the drivers side right behind the clamshell door and along and above the wheel well. i'm thinking its looking like its going to cost me about 5grand or so to fix it. well that or i pay my deductable and they fix it and i pay higher insurance for a couple years. will post pics when i get them off my cell phone. no one was hurt and the truck is still drivable.

Re: Well it happened

What a sh!tty deal. I would definetly look into what kind of increase your insurance will charge you. There's no way I would just accept this and pay 5grand. I'll talk with my wife and see what she suggests. (she's a claims adjuster)

Post some tragedy shots if you get a chance.

FJ Spill,
Sorry to hear the bad news. Glad you are OK.
It never ceases to amaze me what the various levels of government get away with. Remain dumfounded that they don't clear the snow in Calgary. Rather let it melt. Ultimately it gets packed down, and nicely polished!

Re: Well it happened

The important thing is that no one was hurt. Yes, it still sucks, (it did when I had my accident), but it can be fixed. Just don't let the insurance company rent ya a Chevy Venture like they did for me....what a crappy van....

Re: Well it happened

yeah, talked to my insurance company (ama actually) and they are going ahead with their own investigation, and they might actually go after the city for it.

and there's no way i'm letting them rent me a venture. i get to rent a vehicle from enterprise, and i get to pick it surprisingly enough. should be interesting. yeah when i get a chance to dl the pics from my phone or whatnot i'll post some up.

Re: Well it happened

That is sad news my friend. If you're like me, I would rather do the damage to my FJ myself, rather than just some cheap accident.
But any major damage is bad damage, no matter what the cause.
I feel for you and hope the best for you; and not to many difficulites getting her fixed!

Re: Well it happened

That sucks, I know how you feel, but I just keep the dents and scratches for character. Think about it, you have a one of a kind FJ now, no one else is going to get that exact same body contour. Hope everything goes well with the insurance, keep us up to date with what happens.

Re: Well it happened

Do the other side to make it match, much cheaper than fix'ing.
