Paint Protection

I have a friend who is over for dinner tonight and he has the same black FJ as us, without all of the mods..He told me he paid an extra $1k for Full body paint protection from the dealer here in Calgary...He claims it is on all the painted surfaces...Just had a look and can't tell or notice it on any of the surfaces....I have seen this stuff on other vehicles and can usually see the film line...Not on this FJ..Was this an option??? He bought at Henninger...I was offered a front hood and pillar kit but took a pass...After driving it for 2 months and getting a half dozen chips in the ****ty paint I wish I had bought some kind of film...Your thoughts>>>

Re: Paint Protection

Of course it was Henninger.....I purchased my FJ through Canyon Creek was never offered such 'protection'. Would have refused it anyways unless it comes with a very good guarantee, otherwise it's not worth it.

Re: Paint Protection

I actually just got my 2008 FJ from Heninger as well and they also tried to sell me this "platinum protection" package. It wasn't a film they put on though, it was some 'special' application they put onto the paint so that I never have to wax it and it won't rust either. I passed on it...i did however get the 3M film applied to my FJ. a guy that was recommended to me does all the exotic cars in calgary and he did a sweet job on my car.

Re: Paint Protection

Yeah, paint protection is really a rip off.

If you do get the 3M film applied, the dealer will upcharge quite a bit so I would get it done elsewhere (basically what I did).

Re: Paint Protection

I paid $500 for paint protection from Noral Toyota. At least it will cover my chips that are rusting already.

Did you get it done at Shadow Tint by any chance? I've never had them apply 3M but I've had them tint a couple of my vehicles and they do a great job. They apparently teach the techs at dealerships how to apply the film. They even run an FJ as a shop vehicle.

Well, the guy that did my car got the kit for the front grille/hood from shadow tinting. Then did the A-pillars, roof lines, and a few other pieces custom. He's converted his garage into a ship with a hoist and everything.

Re: Paint Protection

I've done a few installs with the 3M. Did it on my FJ and it saves the paint big time in Calgary. You need to know what you're doing so don't try at home project. Go see Nuno at Shadow Tint, it's half the price off the dealer. By the way, Shadow does all of Henningers installs at their shop anyway. Don't pay the dealer markup!
