Toyota cuts Canadian pricing...

Toyota Canada chopping prices

Globe and Mail Update

Friday, February 01, 2008

Toyota Canada Inc. is chopping prices on an additional 16 Toyota and Lexus models by anywhere from 3 per cent to 12 per cent, in the latest move by manufacturers and retailers to reflect the strength of the dollar.

In dollar terms, the cuts range from $750 for the Toyota Yaris, whose manufacturer's suggested retail price falls to $13,165 for the hatchback edition, up to $8,100 for the Lexus GX series, whose MSRP falls to $68,500, the auto maker said Friday.

Toyota said the move means it has lowered the MSRP for all 2008 Toyota and Lexus models except for those already adjusted late last year (Prius, Tundra and Lexus GS) and 2008 models being cleared out, such as the Corolla, Matrix, Camry and RX 350.

Re: Toyota cuts Canadian pricing...

It is interesting how all the car manufacturers in Canada are dropping their prices because Canadians want/will go south to purchase their vehicles. Makes you wonder about the profit margin on vehicles when they all can do this.

Re: Toyota cuts Canadian pricing...

Too little - too late... {F 'em}

Bought an '07 Ti [brand spankin' new...] last December for $32,334 - TOTAL!

Same truck here was $45,866...that was after the local dealer so graciously agreed to knock 700 bux off full retail..generous pri_k, he was...

The $32,334 included USD 1997.00 paid for state tax and title; 6.1% duty; 13% sales tax; numerous phone calls; several FedEx packages; the potential tax savings that I could have realized by trading here...hell, I even included the differential between the little bit of money I borrowed at 7% vs. the 5.9% financing I could have had through Toyota Canada Finance!!

It's the equivalent of our Canadian "C" package: Includes everything [except the sub-woofer] - with the roof rack; front skid plate; spare tire cover; pass side armrest; all-weather mats; first aid kit; yada yada...

Exact amount saved: $13,522.00

Granted, I timed the currency market quite well - buying the US quid at CAD 0.9445

OK, sorry for the rant -- I still get quite excited when I see anything dealing with "Toyota pricing".

For the record, owning and driving an FJ is the most fun I've ever had -- with my pants on!

Happy Trails...

Re: Toyota cuts Canadian pricing...

Here's an interesting story found today on MSN...

If you choose to watch the slide show of Inadmissable Vehicles, take note of the fact it is the manufacturer who dictates to Transport Canada what is and what is not admissable....classic case of the proverbial cart ahead of the horse....protectionism at it's finest.

In regards to Toyota cutting Canadian pricing....

I'm sorry... but dropping the price by 1 or 2 grand doesn't even come close to the $10k price difference between the US and Canadian pricing.

:End Rant:
