All right fellow Canucks – just thought I would start a thread to see how many Canadians are looking at the FJ and how seriously. Are people planning to pick one up right away or waiting to see what might come next (SE, TRD).
I’ve gone from “wait and see what comes next” to putting $500 (refundable) down on a Silver 6spd C package for a March 28th delivery. Having only seen pictures, my biggest concern relates to the quality of plastics in the interior – some of the initial pictures look a little suspect. With that said, it’s hard to say based on pictures of a pre-production model. Have to hope for the best.
Just bought a black FJ 6-speed C-Package, The dealer was unable to give me pricing on the tow hitch (required), the sliders, or the off-road light package. I didn't go for the brush guard 'cause I'll get the ARB bumper when it becomes available to get the winch on there.
$500 down & #2 on the list for a yeller manual B package- absolutely must retire the '89 4 runner with 350,000 k's.
Been looking at vehicles for 5 years or so, worried that there was nothing even remotely worthy of replacing the 4 runner. I will sadly miss the removable top ( I use a soft top on it 9 months of the year) and the 4 cylinder economy (toyota totally missed the boat & sucked up to G. Bush & his gas guzzling cronies by not offering a 4 clyinder). Alternative fuel technology should & could have been pushed many years ago-guess its too late for this planet so we might as well have fun while its still here.
I could never buy a new 4runner to replace the old school ones- not the same truck. Why does almost every vehicle have to slowly get bigger & bigger & bigger over time?- isnt that kinda like overeating & getting fat? For example-the way the '06 Rav 4 is going- it'll be the size of the hummer in a few more years.
But, given the '89 4runner feels like a driving a wheelbarrow with square wheels now, I cant imagine I'd hate the FJ when it comes- it'll feel like a caddy compared to the old rig.
Plastics?- I mean the plastics in my '89 look almost brand new still- i cant imagine they'd get worse over 15 years of plastics & manufacturing development? Anyway, If it looks cheap- that'll be fine- id rather save $5000 than have fancier plastics.
Bottom line- vehicle design these days seems really out of touch-either overbuilt or underbuilt- FJ is about the best I figure I can do. Its not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but should be awesome anyway. If I hate it when it comes, will probably reluctantly get an Xterra.

I own a 4Runner 2003 and I buy it because of the Toyota ride & construction quality but I'm a little disappointed for the Computerization of this car. I like the fact it was design from the Landcruiser Prado but I think Toyota can build a vehicle much funnier for 10k less. To do that is simple, take a look:
Remove:
- ABS;
- Braking assist;
- Braking repartition;
- Downhill assist;
- Hill assist;
- Skid control;
- Active traction control;
- 5 speed Auto transmission;
- V8;
- Rear door electric motor opening;
- Many, many, many air bags;
- X-REAS suspension;

D'OH, missed that. Man, that's what I get for attempting sacrasm. I'll climb back in my hole now.
Sorry to for my quickness to reply but I feel very alone with my love for Diesel engine.
Not only the fuel efficiency but the low rev torque is excellent for off-road. Also, the absence of electric stuff for ignition helps to when you cross a river.
I'm just a lonely diesel lover...

I don't think you are all that alone. I'd prefer a diesel but I just don't see Toyota moving in that direction though I hope I'm wrong.
