Release (Throwout) Bearing Noise

Had the first one replaced at 42,000km. Now at 76,000km, I'm thinking of replacing the second. Any one else in CANADA had this issue? I've searched the forum and only US threads come up.

Re: Release (Throwout) Bearing Noise

My mechanic says it's the fulcrum that connects to the fork, which moves the throw out bearing. I drive a 6mt and when I depress the clutch pedal down, it goes away. If I leave my foot to rest on the pedal, I hear an annoying squeaking sound. All you need to do is find it, grease it and it'll be good as new. My grease washed away from offroad driving and that's why it's making those sounds, he says. But I have yet to do this. Hope this helps.

Re: Release (Throwout) Bearing Noise

Had mine done @ 68,000 kms. It was making the noise intermittently and wouldn't do it when I took it to Toyota. Finally I got pissed off at the service counter and asked to talk to the head mechanic. I told him what it was doing, when it was doing it, and he said that's the release bearing. Unfortunately I was outside of the warranty, but I complained enough, so Toyota paid half, the dealer paid a quarter, and I paid a quarter.

The problem is dropping the transmission to get at the fork and bearing in order to grease them. I think I can pull the clutch housing cover and see if there is a "window" into the front case. In the drawings, my factory service manuals make it look like there might be one. I might be able to spray in some grease from there.

It's going into the shop on Monday. I'll see if I can get in there when it's up on the hoist.
