Local Help.... beginner offroader

Been away from the boards for a bit due to a family illness, and well had my first bite of offroading today, well it was a decent experience none the less, not "real" offroading;

was at the big weekend opening of the new Cross Iron Mills mall and spotted a Toyota demo in the parking lot of Bass Bros; anyways got to take and FJ through a bunch of moguls, sideways incline, and a decent hill, really just got a taste of what the truck can do.

I'm looking at a little upgrading on the truck with some parts and hoping maybe a few of the local guys may be heading out this coming long weekend and maybe teaching me a few tricks and techniques on offroad driving.

I lucked out with my new neighbor who has an FJ, he ordered a lift kit, got screwed around by the manufacturer and as a courtesy they send him an upgraded kit twice?? so he offered me the kit for free in turn that I install his...... so duh... I jumped at the offer, so in all of 3.5 hrs I had both trucks up, lifted and we were touring the dirt piles out back on our block.

Now that I'm lifted and had a bite from the offroading bug, I'm looking for some skid plates, bushguard, and some offroading time. Any and all help would be appreciated. Most of the parts on here are in the US and no one is really wanting to ship parts... so local would be great.

Chris have you joined the Calgary Toyota 4 Wheel Drive Association?

Canada Toyota 4WD Association - CT4WD

They have regular meetings, offroad courses and planned offroading events. In addition to this they sometimes offer group buys on All-Pro Off Road gear.

You should check them out.

Re: Local Help.... beginner offroader

^ yeah checked it out and joined the site, thanks for the help guys, I have to admit, I've always been a lowrider import and muscle car guy. Since my Challenger has been a nightmare to deal with since the accident, I have been looking at purdying up the truck.. as she doesn't get too much part love from me. So the lift was the first and foremost. Now it's just lights, bushbar, intake and exhaust, then wheels and rubber.

planning to attend the upcoming BBQ, so hopefully put some faces to some names and meet new people

NSOR.COM North Shore Offroad is the place for new 4x4 parts and four wheel drive services

You may want to check out these guys for offroad parts. Not Alberta but not too far from you. I've bought things from them with no problems shipping to Ontario.

Re: Local Help.... beginner offroader

Jacked up, what is that toyota road course about?
I am a fellow begginer off-roader and would not mind going on a light run somewhere close (waiparous, maybe). Let me know if you are interested in going.

I don't really want to go with a whole bunch of advanced off-roaders and feel out of place.

Thats to bad. I wouldn't but from them either, but I would buy from them. Everyone has different takes on different companies. To each his own.
