Re: Reasons why CBers should consider HAM Radio

I have a Cobra 75 CB with the remote mike setup.
Since Im kind of a minimalist when it comes to "stuff" & i just really need ONE good radio in addition to the CB for my planned road trips up into AK... Is the 2m good enough for that or should i switch to something else before i do the whole install thing?

Re: Reasons why CBers should consider HAM Radio

To be honest, this is where I messed up in my own rig. A good dual band 2M/440 is probably the best solution. I went straight 2M and wished all the time now that I had gone 2M/440. That is what I would do.

Re: Reasons why CBers should consider HAM Radio

We decided to bring back 1.25 meters. So now we have a small group using the 223.50mhz calling freq. I build a couple of Jpoles for 220mhz. A local ham gave me the radio, so I built him an antenna.

Also we have a loaner radio we pass around when people are in need. My best friend had all of his radios stolen from his car. Including the radio I bought him for passing the test. I also bought one for my brother-in-law that passed the exam.

The loaner, it's an older dual band Kenwood 2m/70cm

A friend and myself built this EmCom radio box from a large grenade ammo can. Of course we had to paint it FDE!

It has an Icom 7000, auto tuner and a Goal Zero battery pack. It's pretty rocking!

Just thought I'd share.

Most hams are willing to go the extra mile to help out. Just another reason to become one.

Son, you've been bitten by the bug! Like I told ya over on FB, once you start playing with antenna design, it is addictive! Same goes with mobile setups like that sweet one you have built! I am going to set up an HF in the camp trailer when we get that done.

Good work!
