Medano Pass / Sand Dunes Run

We've been talking about this for a while, may as well try to get it planned.

This will be a VERY long day for the people up north, so you may want to consider camping somewhere Friday and/or Saturday night.

What dates work best for the most people? I'd like to head down there in August sometime, so either the 15th, 22nd, or 29th work best. I kind of shy away from the 29th, since we'll be heading to NM on the 4th for TOTH. So really I guess the 15th or 22nd of August.

Anyone prefer one or the other?

Trail details:
Medano Pass - Dirtopia, the Off-Road Encyclopedia
TrailDamage.com - Medano Pass

We'll run the trail from east-west, so we'll probably meet in Westcliff or in that area around 10am.

What does everyone think??

Update:
RSVP Link: mobaganda* - Sand Dunes Run Aug 09

We'll meet in Westcliffe, on Sat the 22nd, probably about 10:30 or so.

Re: Medano Pass / Sand Dunes Run

It is a pretty easy trail. It's more about playing in the sand a little I think, and we've never done it before

Re: Medano Pass / Sand Dunes Run

Could do the 22nd, but not the 15th. Have actually been looking at this for a while too. Although really the 29th would be the best.

Re: Medano Pass / Sand Dunes Run

Medano is a very easy rd., we ran Mt Blanca this last weekend and we camp off Medano pass.
the part of the trail that runs through the sand is kinda fun but you can't really run due to traffic coming from the other direction. Mostly due to blind turns and steep up and downs. I normally come from the east side out of Walsonburg (sp) and run west to the dunes that way you don't have to buy a day pass if you aren't going to hang out in the National Park. On the dune side of the pass there is a free air station so that is a plus to coming from that side.

As long as I am not in class. I am really going to have to come up with something else other than class but for now that is what I do.
