Just something I've noticed during these recent negotiations, why are the Invoice Prices on Edmunds and KBB on average $449 less than what Toyota's Invoice Price is?
I've had 2 dealers give me Invoice printouts for the exact same vehicle, and the Invoice Price listed was exactly $449 more than what was listed on Edmunds and KBB. I was told something about dealer holdback or advertisement fees not listed on the price breakout, but does anyone really know the true cost or where this comes from?
Trying to figure the true invoice price so I know what to really shoot for.
The following is a listing of additional charges added to the invoice by Toyota for an FJ with an MSRP of $27,374 and a total invoice of $25,129.
This is a typical FJ with only Convenience package, 17" alloys, rear diff lock, and mat set.
The TDA is "pool money" for group advertising on all Toyotas within a specific geographic market area, and varies by area. The holdback is used to raise the "cost" of the vehicle and shield the dealer from paying sales commissions on that amount. Wholesale finance reserve is refunded to the dealer and in theory pays the interest charge for "flooring" the vehicle on the dealer's credit line for a short period of time.

Problem is EDMONDS does not sell cars. Cars Direct DOES sell cars. If you go to CARSDIRECT.COM , put in your Zip code for your region, and plug in the equipment you want, you will get an accurate invoice that dealerships in your area are working from. If they will not deal with you, cars direct quotes a selling price, you will pay about 10% over that to buy your FJ from CARSDIRECT.
