Lost Title

OK, I've got everything in place, negotiated the deal I want, my black diamond is supposed to be ready tomorrow, got my trade-in cleaned up and cleaned out... BUT I cannot find my copy of the title to my current car (I'm in Texas). I've looked everywhere. Does anyone know whether my only option is to go get a new certified copy? Or is it possible to trade in or sell a car in Texas without actually having a certified copy of the title?

Re: Lost Title

The dealership can get your title. Don't worry about it.

Re: Lost Title

Replacing a trade-in title is usually no more involved than signing a lost title affadavit and power of attorney so it can be transferred once the dealer receives it. We usually put the dealership's address on the title application (for the lost title) so it comes there...saving a return trip for the customer. Make sure you take your current registration so the dealer knows you own it and the owner's name on it can be verified
