Price Program for 2008 FJ Cruiser

I'm hoping a Moderator will make this a Sticky.

FJ.2008-Pricing-1.zip

If you can open the zip file there is an Excel Spreadsheet for you use to price the 2008 FJ Cruiser.

These prices should be good for the U.S., with minor adjustments for the Gulf States Region (TX, LA, AR, OK, and MS) and the Southeast Region (FL, GA, AL, NC, and SC). Sorry I do not have pricing detailed information for our friends in the Provinces.

The Pricing Calculator is broken down into five sections:

1. Vehicle Selection
2. Factory Installed Options
3. Port or Dealer Installed Options
4. Dealer Charges and Taxes
5. Option installed by Buyer (assuming TRDSource.com prices, less S&H)

The spreadsheet has examples entered that you must change to meet your preferences. The example shown would be my built sheet. The example shows the offer column (column “H”) with prices midway between MSRP and Invoice, something I would consider reasonable negotiation.

In the Vehicle Selection enter the reference number for the model number (look in column “J”, rows 2 thru 4). Enter your selection in cell “B6.” Note how the MSRP and Invoice pricing is automatically registered in cells “F6” and “G6”. In cell “H6” you can enter the number you are willing to pay for the base vehicle. In cell “B7” you can enter the color code for you vehicle, note that I do not know the paint codes for Iceberg, Sandstorm, or Brick. The destination charge is automatic, but you can enter a different number in the offer column (good luck on negotiating that number).

Factory Installed Options are listed in column “J”, rows 16 thru 28. Select the number in column “J” corresponding to your choice and enter in cells “B12 thru B16”. There are requirements and conflicts associated with these options, so read column “P” to be sure. You need to enter the correct number (matching the vehicle model number) for the “OF”, “UP”, and “UR” options. In column “H” you can manually enter the price you are willing to pay for each option. If you go to the Toyota built site, there are different options for different parts of the country (depending on the ZIP code you enter). These options are nothing more than a grouping of the different individual options shown on this worksheet.

Port or Dealer Installed Options are listed in column “J”, rows 33 thru 70. Select the number in column “J” corresponding to your choice and enter in cells “B19 thru B28”. In column “H” you can manually enter the price you are willing to pay for each option. If you cannot get the dealer to negotiate on these items, it is possible to order from TRDsource.com (or another participating vendor) and install it yourself.

The Dealer Charges & Taxes section is everything else section. The Dealer generally has a standard fee for Documents and Finance Handling. Get this number before you begin serious negotiation and just plug it in cell “F31”. Don’t waste your time negotiating this number, dicker on the other values. If you want an extended warranty enter it here. The dealer can play a real “shell game” with you on this one. If the warranty with the most miles and lowest deductible won’t cost the Dealer more than $1000, so don’t fall for the $1200 - $1800 charge that will likely be quoted. In fact, if you are interested in an extended warranty, make it part of the vehicle negotiation, not part of the closing document discussion. If you are trading in a vehicle, enter the value you think it is worth (using Kelly or some other source) as a negative number in cell “H34”. The Dealer will be all over the map on this one, so do your homework before going to the Dealership. In most states the Dealership collects the sales tax, so enter the sales tax rate in cell “C35”. I you live in a state that collects for the license plates (DMV fees, etc), then enter the information on row 36.

If you did this correctly, the numbers in row 37 (Total Cost from Dealer) will appear as MSRP in column “F”, Invoice in column “G”, and your offer in column “H”. You are armed with adequate information to negotiate.

The last section Options Buyer Installs, Purchased from TRD is for items you want to add to the FJ Cruiser without using the Dealership. Enter the code from column “J”, rows 33 thru 70 and see what the savings versus MSRP is. Note these values are before shipping and handling.

At the bottom of the printed page (cells A1:I64) is a list of nine comments and/or cautions for the buyer. Please read.

Below the printed page, beginning at row 67 are notes that list all the items in each of the major factory options.

Re: Price Program for 2008 FJ Cruiser

Thanks KLD...I have saved to my Excel file and am now prepared to negotiate on a new 2008. The only thing that gives me pause is you "future" Forest Green? I have a deep Green 2004 LC and would like nothing better than a matching "lil" Cruiser!

I assume this is just a hope? Anything actually creating expectaions/hope that there may be a Green FJ in the works? Thanks...Tom R
