Good time to buy

I think its a good time to buy an FJ. I was just at the dealership and talking to this sales guy about FJs and he told me in all his life as a car salesman he has never seen a car be returned so often. He alleges they got about 32 "returns" of the FJ. Meaning guys were trading them in for Camry or that new 08 Siennas. He said most of these guys impulse bought and the wives got mad and made them return them. wow. he said the used FJs went real fast but felt bad on the guys that had to return them as they lost so much money on them. Some of them only owned them for 5 months. geeeez.

do you find this to be true around you? i had no idea. also the 07s they had left on the lot they discounted them pretty good. I was shocked. The sales guy I talked to said they are not ordering as many as the "hype" is dying and they are not selling many cars in general now.

So it might be a good time to buy!

Re: Good time to buy

Sounds like there was not much discussion in these "guys" homes. In general our economy is down so people are not making purchases of items like "autos" or other large dollar costs. It is a buyers market when they are not selling cars. Regarding "fast"....Its not a porsche, its a 4000 lb vehicle.

Overall, I find little or no merit to what this salesguy is saying.

Go test drive one and form your own opinion. I love mine!

Re: Good time to buy

Did a lot of people get really hosed on these a year ago or so? I see tons of them for sale that are about a year old, and guys want $26,000 - 28,000 out of them. They say they need that to get out of their loans. It doesn't even look like they cost that much brand new.

I sure hope it's a good time to buy. I'm ready if I can find somebody to take my money.

Re: Good time to buy

i was just at the dealer to do maintence.

but it seems like a lot of guys impulsed bought the FJ and are paying for it now. If they are trading in FJs for vans it sounds as if maybe wifey got a baby coming... and the FJ IMHO is not a truck for a family with a baby.

I know there is one sold on the lot now (used) for $22500 fully loaded. It has 25k miles on it (I think he said). Only owned for 9 months. He had another one that was used for 4 months. 4 MONTHS!? i do not know anyone that buys an auto and keeps it for only 4 months. but it was $26500. It had a lot of mods he said.

25K in 9 months is a lot of use, about 2800 miles per month. I put a tad under 20k on mine in a year and I use it for business and I pile people in it. I guess some don't think ahead and react on an impulse then regret it later.

Re: Good time to buy

There must be alot of impulse buyers out there!

Why did I buy the FJC? My dad had a 1973 FJ40 as a daily driver when I was growing up. I have very fond memories of him taking the doors and hardtop off every summer and going "cruising". My dad regrets to this day that he ever sold it. It was a no-brainer for me to buy the FJC. In fact, I plan on this vehicle being in my garage 25 years from now. To all the impulse buyers, good riddance. Suits me fine that only "hardcore" FJ enthusiasts would find this vehicle to be everything they're looking for...and more!

Re: Good time to buy

I had a couple of neighbors that had them Mikeys07FJ. My dad never had one as he is disabled and had to drive a van. I am going to buy one for the same reasons you have stated though. I would like it to be my son's first car when he gets older (like 12-14 years from now).

Re: Good time to buy

i went back to the dealer yesterday to do some more routine maintence. they have 4 2008 models in stock. All right about 30k. They had 2 07 models. I asked the sales guy (who started his pitch and did not realize I already had one) what the story was with the two 07s.

He said one guy came in and traded it in for a 4Runner Limited. He said the wife was there complaining it is the worst SUV created for a family. He took a beating on the trade in value. It had 13k miles on it. The 4Runner ran the guy $40k and they gave him $18k for the FJ.

The other FJ was not in excellent condition as it was dinged up and scratched. This guy traded it in for a Tundra SR5 pick-up. The guy said the FJ is too small to transport stuff. That Fj had 9k miles on it. It was not for sale as they were shipping it off to another dealer.

It just seems like people did not really think it over before buying their FJ. I do not have a family, just hunting dogs, heheheheh and the FJ is perfect for me even though I did have my doubts a few months ago.

Re: Good time to buy

No regrets over here. I plan to keep it for many years to come. And the fact that I don't want anymore car payments is a major factor. That's definitely not a way to build wealth by having car payments my entire life. Plus that leaves me with plenty of money for mods down the road when its paid off so it looks like the FJ is here to stay.
