so i put a deposit on a tt and filled out the spec sheet. price was agreed upon at 500 over invoice. signed the order sheet. Today the salesman calls and says that they cant give me the price i was quoted? can they do this? what recourse do I have if any?
You put a deposit down after you signed the agreed upon price! You got them by the Nutz, Do you have reciept for deposit? or did you get it back? You see the GM , They will honor your deal or you may do better. There is a corporate # to call, just have all the information Names of all sales associates and so on. Other GM's at other locations love to hear this situation and may even handle your situation for you! Hope it works out.

well not sure how things are working on the mainland but it seems i see on here lots of people complaining about stealerships trying to rip them off. So I am going to put in a good word for the Servco Toyo dealer here on Oahu I had no problems or issues i went to the lot ended up talking to the internet dealer guy they had one black diamond 08 that i wanted someone had already put 500 dollars down on so I told him confirm that please. He spent two hours on the phone than as i was bout to leave he came out said guess the guy just backed out credit no good and i said sold! i got it for a good price considering the limited market here in hawaii. tow days later redid all the stereo stuff and my windows would not roll down figured i missed something. took it to the stealership they said you did something wrong i said fix it they gave me a free rental car call me next day i forgot to plug the plug back in for that switch inside the door. they never charged me they took my truck and washed and detailed it again, they have been very helpful and nice so far.
Actually that is the way all dealerships should be. The problem is that the mainland has too many Toyota dealerships in each market place and not truly enough customers to go around. Then you have the internet telling every one to shop more than one place and pit every dealership against each other.
It has gotten real bad here.. Over there, you have just 1 dealer group and they have to treat all their customers well, if not their customers will not buy at all..
Over here, the customers pit us against each other and that cause strife in the industry..
Think of it this way, You shop for an FJ you beat the dealer down to nothing, what you are really doing is beating the Commission out of the Sales person pocket.
Most of the people you buy cars from, can't even afford the cars you are buying.. Except the real old ones (who have been in the business for a long time) or the High end cars like Lexus and BMW etc.
So shopping around at 3 or 4 dealers to beat each deal by 100 or so, all you are doing is making your self frustrated and thus getting a bad taste in you mouth about buying a car.. It isn't your (consumers) fault really, you have been taught by your fathers and that is what they did.
This is a New age in the Auto industry, the old school doesn't play any more.. The dealers who are still doing it old school, will be gone soon.., OR they will change to survive
Try doing it this way. Shop dealers, not cars. Go out and shop the dealers in the area and get to know each of them. Which ever one makes you all warm and fuzzy, buy a car from that one. My suggestion is to find the salesperson at each dealer who has the most product knowledge about what you want to buy and shop them against each other to see who you like the most.
Then buy the car from that person. Pay a fair profit margin over invoice, and enjoy buying a FJ or what ever you are buying from someone you like. Not that you are going to take them to dinner or let them date your sister, but someone who makes you feel good about the purchase, and make it easy to deal with..
I know the naysayers out in the crowd and all are thinking (stick it where the sun doesn't shine), but it really works and make it enjoyable for all and you will actually like what you have just done..
Who ever out there in the INTERNET land that said "PROFIT IS A BAD WORD" never had to live in a Capitalists society at all. I think they were from France or somewhere like that, because it is what makes this country what it is today and a great place to live....
Just my .02 on what I have seen, after being in the Car business for the last 18 years. and seeing the change in the way people (customers) treat the salespeople.. and Visa versa..
Believe me there are a lot of bad salespeople in the world, which should be gone from our business.. This is why I say shop for a Dealership not the product. Find the right one which fits for you and your needs..

Im going to try and get ahold of someone tomorrow. My sales rep called and left a message today stating that they, his management werent going to let him get rid of the TT for 500 over invoice. We talked, a bit he said he could do 1500 over, and would make sure that I got "the best possible trade and interest" which seemed a bit wierd shouldnt that have happened already? I am a chef, I have been in the customer service biz for about 16 years. If i price a plate out for $15, then after the guest has ordered, I realize that I wont be making as much profit as I would like, I cant go out and tell them, im sorry, we need to make some more money off of that steak you just ordered. Now if you had ordered the burger it would be fine, but this is a filet there are only a few of them available per cow." I just dont understand. I am not trying to keep the guy from making a living, but what the hell.

I would like to see what he and the dealer's management signed when he gave them his $$ (please tell me you have something in writing that a 10 year old could de-code)
We utilized an "earnest money agreement" that spelled out model, color inside and out (by color code), engine, and all agreed upon options and accessories on the ordered vehicle. It disclosed selling price either as a $ amount or an amount over invoice at time of delivery. It noted an anticipated delivery date range and the expected mileage range that would be acceptable to the buyer (in case it was a dealer traded unit)
It also explained the means for either party to remove themselves from the obligation of the agreement.
Why don't we keep track of these slimey dealerships? I'd gladly drive to the other side of town to buy from a "good practices" dealer... I think we should have a list and keep these VERY WEALTHY organizations in check...
so, they havent processed my deposit/earnest money, which leaves them the out. Pretty bad really, my sales rep got told by his mgmt. whatcha gonna do? I tell you what Im gonna do, buy a TT SE MT for 1500 more than i thought I was going to pay. I guess it could be worse. I could not be getting it.

1500 minus 500 = $1000 more (I think)
I personally think $1500 over is a screamin' deal on the TT edition. (I'd still have to take a chunk out of someone's ass or something to that effect before I left, if I ultimately bought there)
It is a double edged sword for me, part of me says well, hell dont let your people make offers that cant be accepted, then the other, more caring and rational side realizes that it can happen to any of us in our jobs. specially in the service industry, so I'll pay their extra money but you better believe that I am going to ***** about it when I am driving off in that white beauty.

So i will pay, I dont want to run the risk of them simply saying..oh this price wont work, excuse me, this gentleman here will be paying MSRP +2k, here are your keys sir and as for you, here is the door. at least thats how the pessimist in me sees it.
