Finding the right price...

I'm in SoCal OC looking for a new FJ (4x4 AT - CQ / OF / FE). Every quote I'm getting is ~26500. I'm hearing invoice is 25895 for the model/options I'm looking at and the dealership can't go less than 300 over invoice (=26195). I've heard of stories saying that they get them to 26000 with way more options than what I've listed above.

The dealer mentioned they sell FJs often, so they can't do much about getting lower pricing. I figured this was just a story that they all say about each model.

I'm going to head over to a couple more dealerships and see if they can beat this price of course, but just wanted to see if I can get some of your opinions. If I'm looking to pay 27500 OTD, what price on the FJ would they need to give it to me for? And if anyone knows how much title/license costs please let me know. I can figure out the price if I've got those numbers.

Thanks!!!

Re: Finding the right price...

tax/license/title is around 10%
$25k flat would be $27500 OTD

Sounds like a good deal! You have to understand all the options and what they cost! If you can bargain with a trade and then some money down with your financing (lending institution) you may get the vehicle for a little over there cost! Believe me, dealerships have built in profits regardless of what they say! The M.S.R.P. Is just that, and that is there starting price with a Hefty built in Profit as much as 17% overall! Take your time and be prepaired to walk and lose a few deals to the Walk in sucker. Sooner or later they will work your offer and you will be glad you held out! Good luck!

Re: Finding the right price...

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm looking at an 08 by the way.

Is finding 25k flat (27500 OTD) for what i'm asking for possible?

I plan on putting 10k down and using my credit union as my financing for the rest. Would this be helpful at all in obtaining my goal?

Thanks again!

Re: Finding the right price...

I find this site helpful Edmund's True Market Value.

Invoice, according to Edmund's, should be about $25,300; Others are paying $26,900.

Re: Finding the right price...

Ask to see the invoice, two charges on the invoice are Dealer Hold back and a Financial charge. My sticker was 30,893 Dealer stated invoice was 27,900. Minus out the two above charges especially dealer hold back and the actual invoice is 27,100. I started from there and went up to 27,400 explaining I thought 300 over what I consider the real invoice was fair. I own the truck so I'm sure they didn't loose any money. The dealer HB they get back from Toyota so I feel asking me for it is double dipping. Edmunds pricing is good but they don't include the roof rack option which is port installed for 500 or the extra arm rest option for 275 also port installed, so if your truck has either you need to make adjustments.

Thanks for the great tip. I'll use that one today since I'm running around to dealerships.

I hope to get them down to the lowest and have dealerships throw in "extras" to get my business. Wish me luck!

Re: Finding the right price...

I just bought my 2008 FJ 4x4AT with CQ, OF, and floor mats for $25,513 which is $100 below invoice this past weekend in SoCal. It was a great experience and the dealership was easy to work. THey also threw in a lifetime of oil changes and car washes.

PM me if you want the dealer and salesman's name. He was really good and didn't mess around.
