I paid 200 UNDER invoice... with details of the negotiation

I just made a deal last night.

Black
4x4
AT

CQ (convience package)
All-terrain package (offroad package, better tires, shocks, wheels, locking rear diff, and A)
Accessory package- rubber floor mats, extra arm rest, first aid kit

MSRP was 28,600
Invoice was 25,816
Paid: 25,616 with 5 miles

I got it down to 200 below invoice and this is how I did it. I checked my area via internet for new car inventory. No dealer had the exact car I wanted. I was only looking for a locking rear diff and CQ package (the all-terrain package is 1100 invoice price more)

I found 3 cars close to the car I was looking for. I told each dealer that I was willing to pay invoice for the vehicle I wanted (without the All terrain) but I would split the cost of the package I didn't want so in the car I bought it, I was asking for 550 below invoice.

They were bewildered how I got to those numbers (Because most dealers will try to give you invoice on the car but not the packages) and asked me to send over my data. I sent them over the edmonds blue book info, and the spreadsheet that everyone here has provided.

The finance manager returned my call (Those numbers just upgraded me from the sales man) saying that they COULD NOT make that deal. I said ok thank you for your time. The salesman called back 10 min later playing dumb "what did the manager tell you?"

To make a long story short, when the salesman called I said I would go 250 under invoice, the manager got back on the phone saying the best deal he has ever given was the employee discount of 100 over invoice, I said no then he countered with a long speech and said 200 under.

I said you have a deal.

This is what I learned. When I asked a salesperson to find me the 'right' car, I found out that they do not have access to all the cars, dealers can hide them so talk to the internet sales manager! If the dealers know that you are talking to other dealers then it helps alot. I gave each dealer the dealer that I was talking to and the vin number of each car I was looking at. The entire process took about 3 hours with email and phone and one drive down to the dealer after the OKed price.

On a side note, The dealer was asking 15k for my trade in and I sold it in 5 weeks for 17k.

Good luck purchacing! This fourm saved me 3000 bucks!

I am in San Diego (edit)

Cool deal and congrats! Have you taken delivery of the vehicle yet? I have read of these "deals" and then the dealer switches things around. I hope you have an honest dealer. I paid premium when I purchased my 07

Welcome to the forums!!

Re: I paid 200 UNDER invoice... with details of the negotiation

Yes It has been picked up. I drove down 30 minutes after talking to them. I had the vehicle stock number from the website.

After a negotiated price, they stuck to that price. I was putting 17k down (from the sell of my last vehicle) and financing about 11k.

They first came to us with 8.99% from a loan from Toyota, we said no thanks and asked them to try a credit union. My wife has amazing credit at 760 and I have 600, not as good, with her only on the loan it was going to be 5.9% but we choose to put both of us on the loan for 7.2% and saved about 17 bucks a month in finance charges.

Re: I paid 200 UNDER invoice... with details of the negotiation

no hidden fees, what happened was I actually signed the paper for it at about 2000 over invoice then I drove off, then the retards called me back saying they need a pay stub for the loan to go through. I told them I had to wait like 2 weeks for a new one to come in the mail, so after a few days I think they got nervous about waiting being I was driving the car around and they kept lowering the price until toyota accepted the loan, if it was financed through someone else besides toyota I doubt I would have been able to get such a deal.
