What's the story behind cars being sold as new (never titled) yet they have miles on them?
My friend bought a 4Runner this past weekend at the dealer that has the Yellow 08 FJ being sold for $26k. He inquired about it with the salesman and he said yes its new and it has like 7k miles on it. So my friend said, "that's not new" but the salesman said "oh yes it is. its never been titled. It was not a dealer demo"
When I was at a Nissan dealer I remember they had 2 07 Maximas on the lot being sold as new. What have they been doing since then? Being driven by sales managers? Shouldn't they have sold those by 08?
So are these old cars with miles on them being sold as new really demos? They must be right? If so I'd never ever buy one. I've seen how "dealer plate" cars drive. Just a few days ago some guy in a "dealer plate" 09 Acura RL wizzed by me and went through a red light, what do they care? Its not their car...
After learning about the FJ having miles I think 26k is too high. I was thinking it was really "new" as in 10 miles max on the thing.

drive that "new" car w/ 7000 off the lot and see whats its worth LOL. I swear dealers/sales people are so stupid about the economy!!!

I was wondering about that, too. Bought a 2008 FJ Cruiser in May 2009 being sold as new at a Toyota dealership. The build date was 10 months earlier and the odometer had about 5,700 miles.
I was told by a service writer that the FJ had been the dealership owner's daily driver and the salesman told me he let a "friend" drive it overnight. It had never been titled.
The Toyota warranty started the day I bought it, but the 5,700 miles were counted against the 30,000 mile limit. I used the accumulated mileage as bargaining leverage.

My friend said while his 4Runner was being prepped the sales guy let him look over the FJ and he said when he sat in the drives seat he saw a bunch of crumbs of some type of food all over the passenger seat...could they have at least detailed the darn thing!? Or could the sales mgr wait to eat out of the car!??!?!!?
one thing he said was he did see an oil change sticker on the winshield so... the oil "seems" to have been changed but you just never know, could have been a scam. Seriously do dealer demos get driven that much?
I can see a car with say under 500 miles being a dealer demo but once you go over that I don't know. its a used car and to me isn't really worth my time if its being sold as "new". the only factor would be a deeply discounted price. Because when I think of "dealer demo" I think of ABUSE. so...
I'd be curious what this FJ has been doing for the past 2 years. as i think it was mfg in fall 2007. so its literally a 2 year old "new" FJ with 7k miles, that make sense!?
IF I were looking to buy an 07.. which i wouldnt... I wouldnt pay any more than KBB dealer price for an 07 with 7000 miles on it...
I'm sure that there's some gullible individual that would pay book/sticker but i hope its not any of us here....

i am not buying one as I already own a 07 that I bought in 06... but I am curious as to the story behind this yellow FJ they are selling. Also my friend said the guy could not find the MSRP sticker that is supposed to be in the window. Said they might have misplaced it. Now isn't this a crime? Or an indication something is funny...shouldn't there ALWAYS be a MSRP sticker on any car being sold used or not????? He wanted to read the specs.
They have a used 07 voodoo there as well that isn't in the best of shape (paint damage/rust/no rear locker). I guess the person traded it in for a Prius, wow...
My old dealership's employees drove their demos till around 7000 miles, it was the responsibility of the driver to have the maintenance done at 3000 miles intervals.
It is illegal to offer an untitled vehicle for sale to the public without a Monroney label.....the dealership should order a new sticker for the vehicle before putting it on the lot.
