Finally I get to see some pictures and all I can say is awesome job!! I want to order one ASAP. The only thing I dont think I would want are the back up lights. Awesome job, I can't wait to order one. Please let me know when I can call and order
Maybe what is needed for the gap is some thought given to a piece of rubber trim or something to clean it up. I did say it would be less obvious in black but....
The crossmember at the rear of the frame would need to be dratically modified/removed if you want to route the exhaust tip through the rear bumper.
If you worry about scraping the exhaust tip, the All Pro exhaust would be a more cost effective mod. Yeah, it won't look as cool. Actually, you wouldn't see it at all.
If I were to route the exhaust tip through the rear bumper, I'd consider placing on the driver's side (which is not convenient since the FJC's exhaust is on the passenger's side) where the rear door hinge is to reduce the chance of burning my legs when I'm loading the cargo area.
my $.02.
Jason: I won't need the back-up lights but could use the swing out carrier for extra jerry can(s) and may be a tab for CB/ham antenna mount. Very nice clean design. I'll be up next week to pick up mine.
Well, since the pipe is hot enough to deliver 3rd degree burns I merely wondered. I realize that the exhaust is routed through the rear facia on a lot of cars but I am not aware of the materials used to achieve this. It was just a thought.
Sorry if my comment came across as rude in any way ... it truely wasn't intended to be.
Yes, the pipes can get pretty hot, not as much when moving as sitting obviously. For the most part only a small percentage of the heat is transmitted to the adjoining surfaces, if the pipe is tight against the bumper more heat will be transferred than if there is a gap (heat doesn't bridge gaps well as it has to raise the ambient air temp first and also compete with air flow). The area immediately around the pipe might get a little warm, but with a surface area as large as a bumper I would expect the heat to dissipate rather quickly and not build up to a point where it would be a problem.
For my personal installation, I would probably want the hole in the bumper just big enough for the exhaust and use some sort of tip to finish it off nicely (not sticking out too far though), and that would also mean a little less heat transferred to the bumper.
Great job to you and the guys. I like the fact that your incorporating add on to the bumper.... "the gas can carrier will be big"
When do you think you will have the next cleaner prototype ready for viewing?
Also, IMO The gap under the door is a bit large, what if build a small trim piece for the rear to look a bit more "factory" (Sorry for that term). IMO it will make the bumper a bit more eye appealing.
Demello will sell a lot of these if they do what they propose to do. ARB's new bumper and a lot of them out there don't do what the consumer (as represented by this forum) wants them to do. At least you all seem to be listening --- how refreshing!
Thanks and I'll take one.

I appreciate the constructive comments on my exhaust concept. My "rough" ideas was to use the TRD tip that came on mine, cut a hole and have it slightly angled toward the passenger side.
Looking at the All-Pro exhaust and where it come out it seems to me that it can just be angled out instead of down at the same spot. At least, that is how it looks when I look under mine. As much as I think the All-Pro has gone a long way to help with departure angle, it is still vulnerable from underneath. If it went straight out, it would help with departure and be less vulnerable.
Regardless, the bumper is sweet, the ability to add-on accessories is sweet and the "gap" is only apparent because the design is maximizing the available space, lowered to allow more clearance for large tires and its unfinished steel, making it more evident. My check is in the mail, hoping I can see this thing on my rig before FJSummit...

This is a rough first copy of our new FJ rear bumper. The final product will be allot cleaner. But this gives you an idea of the lines we are going with.
A few things that were asked for and you got.
Rear back up lights
Rear back up sensors (they won't be in the current locations)
Tire swing out will be an option and bolt to the bumper.
Instead of a side step we made the top flat so you could use it as a step.
The back of the bumper is not any farther out than the frame and not any lower than the frame so you loose no departure angle or rear clearance.
3\16in construction with 1\4in mounting support brackets.
The factory hitch should fit right over the bumper (we haven’t test fitted it yet)
1\2in shackle points
We will offer an "off-road receiver" as well that mounts straight out the back instead of on the bottom like the factory hitch.
Great start, and I love the options. I have two questions though.
1. Will the back window still be able to open with the tire carrier?
2. Can you make it wrap up the sides so that we don't have to cut our OME bumper? I'm sure others too would like to be able to have a simple install. No cutting. Just bolt on, please.

What is the weight?
Forget the tailpipe through the bumper, you'd have to cut a hole in the frame/crossmember...besides I wouldn't want those fumes coming into my open back window.
