Hilift mount locking butterflies?

So, I don't usually carry my hilift, but with winter coming (and my inclination to help stranded folks), it seems like I might want to carry it more than just when I'm specifically offroad. But I ain't going to risk having some punk in a parking lot undo a couple butterfly nuts and walk off with my hilift.

So: Is there an easily implementable locking solution for Demello's lovely FJ-rack hilift mounts? What would be really nice is if the thread on the Demello mounts had the same thread as my tire lugs did, and I could buy 7 locking lugnuts (4 tires, 1 spare, 2 hilift) with a single key to keep track of. But alas.

Any thoughts?

a couple guys I saw used a small cable lock. We were going to switch to the plastic spin locks but never got a set of them to test out. If we could get the threads custom made we could use those for a lug wrench.

I use one of these http://www.amazon.com/Trimax-ST30-Tr.../dp/B0000ATZD5

I wrap it around the base and stick the end through one of the holes. I got it for $10 before shipping

Re: Hilift mount locking butterflies?

the small cable locks are the ones used for securing gun slides. They are usually pretty thin and I doubt very weatherable. I'd use a heavier duty cable lock like the one posted above or something from masterlock like the street cuffs.

I use masterlock cable locks. Fits thru holes in the jack and wraps oround rack. No problems in six months.

I have been using one of these for many months now. Very happy with it. I like that is ADJUSTABLE in length, so I tighten it up against the jack so it does not rattle.

Re: Hilift mount locking butterflies?

Here is what I run and it works the cable is not to long and its technically for a spare tire but it fits through the jack foot and jaw to secure everything on it so that it doesn't get borrowed.

I got the idea from you, thanks. I was going to drill holes through the threads and stick a padlock on it, but this is way better.

Thanks, felonius, this looks like a good solution to all but the most dedicated thieves.

Re: Hilift mount locking butterflies?

No problem I picked up the cable at 4wheel parts for something like 18 dollars out the door.
