Touch up on Plate Bumper

Jason,

I just got my new bumper and it's awesome. There are a few scratches from shipping and I wanted to know what paint I should use for the best color match. Thanks.

Re: Touch up on Plate Bumper

What finish came on your bumper? You can always pickup a can of spray paint at the local hardware store and spray a test spot on the back side of the bumper. It will never been seen once installed. I use duplicolor semigloss black on mine.

Home depot carries a wrinkle finish spray paint. I think its called texture paint. You can try that.

I've used that and also found the Duplicolor "Truck bed paint" is a good match also. The advantage of the Duplicolor is you can get it in a brush on can and applying it with a cheap sponge roller gives a very close match in color and texture...

I have a spot above the passenger side light bucket that the powdercoat came off. Was some ugly rust underneath. I'm going to use the Duplicolor Truck bed paint with the roller to redo my DO bumper. The roller kit comes with a scotch brite pad to ruff up the surface and remove the rust. If that doesn't hold up, it's Line-X time. Just had my rock rails done and they look great.

Re: Touch up on Plate Bumper

Thanks gang. I have this problem with my new powder coated bumper: A scratch where it must have been riding on something and then a scrape next to it. I like the idea of brushing the paint on. Do you recon a primer would be a good idea for the paints?

I'm thinking a primer would be a good idea. If you have to sand off any rust down to bare metal then I'd recommend a primer before the paint. If the coating you have on the bumper is rough or textured then the primer probably isn't needed. If it's a smooth surface then I'd rough it up then re-paint without the primer.
