Hi-Lift Mount Question

Am i doing something wrong?? When i try to put the hi-lift on the mounts (with the handle on top, base plate to the rear) it hits my factory roof rack (the lock/release lever and the ratcheting mechanism) and i cant get it over the studs far enough to put the wing nut on? If i flip it upside down, so the handle is one the bottom, it will slide over a tiny bit more and i can get like 2-3 threads MAX through the wing nut. Basically i cant get it to sit "down in" the lip of the clamps because it is hitting my roof rack, what gives?

It sounds like you have the clamps on the lower tube and not the top tube.

Re: Hi-Lift Mount Question

They are/were on the top tube. Here are some pictures, as you can see the jack isnt sitting in the mount flush/level and that is because the ratcheting mechanism is already hitting the rack, to the point that it acutally took paint off the rack, i had to sit it on the mounts leaning out towards the bottom just to get it close enough to be able to get the wingnuts on...

If you'd like better pics i can throw it back on tomorrow after work and get some good ones, these were just a few that i had that kinda showed what was going on. Any ideas??

EDIT: It is NOT due to the handle isolater either, i know in those pics it looks like it is hitting the rack, but it does not stick out as far as the ratcheting mech. and i even took it off at one point just to make sure.

Re: Hi-Lift Mount Question

Are you dead set on it being on the side of the rack? I have mine on the back on the lower tube and it isn't even close to hitting. I am considering moving the mounts to the top tube in the rear to allow back up lights on the roof rack.

Re: Hi-Lift Mount Question

have you tried angling the mounts so that they point upwards slightly?

Re: Hi-Lift Mount Question

I can't tell from the pictures but the jack looks upside down? It should have the handle on top.

Re: Hi-Lift Mount Question

You might want to rethink where your hi-lift is. The back is a better position if you need it on the rack. On the side it can get caught up on tree branches and other things on the trail side.

Doesnt matter what tube it is on, it is still the same size tube and the mounts dont change "depth" at all so the ratcheting mech. still hits the rack before i can put the wing nut on.

Yes i have tried to angle it, doesnt make a difference, unless i were to angle it so far that the ratcheting mech. would acutally hang off to the side of the truck and the jack would be almost inside the top part of the rack.

Very first sentence in my first post explains why it is on "upside down"...with the handle on top i cant even get the studs to poke through the hi-lift becasue the ratcheting mech. hits the rack.

Isnt yours mounted on the sides in the pics in your signature? Did you move it to the back? I'm honestly not to worried about it getting drug through branches, 99% of the trails this thing sees there is little to no chance of it dragging trees.

Thanks for all the suggestions, still dont know whats up with it.

Re: Hi-Lift Mount Question

What is under the clamps? Electrical Tape? I used Electrical Tape on mine as well to try and avoid scratching it all up.
