Question 86 FJ-60 wont idle

i recently bought an 86 fj-60 with 178,000 miles. it does not want to idle but as soon as i touch the gas pedal it runs great. i can jump on the highway, go thru all the gears and cruise 40-70 mph all day long with no problems but as soon as i push in the clutch and let off the gas it dies. if i press the gas very lightly and keep it around 1000 rpm it sputters and misses all the way to around 1600 rpm but at any time i tap the gas it revs up smooth with no problems. i have looked under the hood and i have seen this nightmare of vacuum lines that go everywhere and im praying it may be something other than that. i have spent roughly 30 min looking them over and did find 1 that had come off and replaced it, the plugs look new, replaced fuel and air filter, getting cap, rotor, and wires today. ok my questions are:

does anyone know of any do-it yourself mods to eliminate some of these vacuum lines?
any suggestions on what i should try before the elimination if its even possible?
is it common for the jets in the carb to plug up on these trucks?
any help would be appreciated,

It could be your idle solenoid is not working properley or even getting power, I had very similar issues with mine. If you live in a state that does not have inspection and smog testing you can do what is called a "de-smog"

Your best bet for good information on an FJ60 is to go over to IH8MUD on the 60 section.

usually a screwdriver can adjust the carb to fix idle. new vacuum line hose doesn't hurt either.
