Oil gauge

Think I'd much rather have an oil gauge on the dash rather than an amp gauge.

Re: Oil gauge

Yes, and a "real" one at that. Ya know one that has actual pressure not a sensor.

Yeah, I figure my GPS shows direction and time. So why do I need compass, and time in tri-cluster pod on top of dash. When I'm thinking of replacing with something more useful such as oil pressure, and vacumn.

Re: Oil gauge

I agree in principle that an oil pressure gauge is more desireable than an idiot light, but in all the Toyota's I've owned and worked on (many) I've never had or ever heard of an oil pump failing or even wearing to significantly weak oil pressure. The gerotor oil pump design Toyota uses is very good and and very robust. I have had one alternator go tits up on a trip, on a Land Cruiser at 175,000 miles. Ergo, an alternator failure is much more likely than an oil pump failure so the volt meter is more practical IF you can only have one or the other.

An oil pressure idiot light can't help you when you start loosing oil pressure on a steep decline or incline and need to shut down...

Re: Oil gauge

Stylin Concepts sells a 2 1/16th LED guage with 25 parameters, including oil pressure, trans temp, etc. for 219 bucks. It displays any two at a time and plugs into the OBII system under the dash.

True; I'm really spoiled by the massive 8+ quart sump in my FJ80. And a pressure gauge too, but I've never been able to starve the pump yet. I like all the power of the new V6, but the old F motors are hard to beat for wheeling IMO.
