Gas Milage! incredible

just drove 36.5 miles from the time the gas light came on! It was not planned but it happened and I'm glad i made it! I drive a 2010 FJ with a 3inch lift and Nito Rock grapplers.

I was coming back from the Summit a couple of years ago and had the light come on. We were loaded TO THE MAX with the whole crew (me, bride, and 3 midgets) and made it almost 50 miles..... with the low fuel light on. Livin' right!

I've noticed it comes on really early. by my estimates it comes on with 4 gallons left. It's a 19 gallon tank, and if I fill up right when it comes on I can put 15 gallons in it.

Depending on your MPG you should get 40-70 miles.

Yes, fuel warning light comes on with quite a bit left in the tank.

That is so weird... I don't get it, why does Toyota have the FJ do this (maybe someone can explain?) I know the tank is 19 gallons, the light comes on, I fill up, and it only takes 15 gallons. I know the light comes on with four gallons left, but WHY exactly, that seems like a pretty big reserve...

I panic when the gas light comes on, mainly because my old car - an 89 Honda civic, no, I didn't rice it like an idiot... - had no range once the light went on. Now I feel like an idiot when I rush to a station with four gallons left in the tank...

Yes, I'm weird, but four gallons seems like a massive reserve...

The fuel filter and pump are in the tank. They do not appreciate being run very low, so when the light comes on, tons of gas left as there may be, you should get some more if possible!

If they wanted you to burn through all 19 gallons, it'd be a 23 gallon tank

I would say that's about average for the light to come on...
my previous vehicle had an "estimated miles to empty" display, and the fuel light would come on when the display hit 50 miles remaining.... in that particular vehicle, that was about 5 gallons of diesel.
