Trd Air Intake Info Please

Please only POST in you have the TRD Air intake. I am not looking for speculation.

I toe a boat and have several mods including ARB bumper and winch, 3 inch lift, BFG 285's, and others. I am looking to find out if the TRD intake will help with toeing and MPG.

When I am on the interstate and set the cruise my fj tends to shift in and out of passing gear alot and will sometimes stay in 3rd gear which kills my MPG. The boat is a waterman which weighs about no more than 1000 pounds trailer and all.

PLease let me know what you think before I spend the 350.00

Re: Trd Air Intake Info Please

I have TRD CAI, but I don't haul as much GW as your boat. I pull only dirt bikes and the like. So the TRD CAI and exhaust are plenty powerful and my rig shifts smooth or at least as smooth as 5AT can be I guess.

I did noticed improved MPG and I run OME lift and 285/70-17s so perhaps we have some similarity in our rides before we add the cart. I recently put on the 285's so I'll need a few miles and tanks to give you more relevant data.

But if you check the other TRD CAI threads....not unanimous nor hung jury...but the verdict is pretty much that people are pleased. Since you are pulling you'll probably want to do an intake at some point anyway, IMO.

happy new year!

Re: Trd Air Intake Info Please

Chris

Thanks so much. I am only getting about 200 miles on a tank (about 15 gallons when the light comes on). I think that anything will help. I just get the feeling that the load is straining the truck but it should not be. I have plenty of around town power and can drive with my foot at 75 but if I put the cruise on it shifts in and out of 3rd and O Drive. Kills my miladge and is Annoying.

Anyone else???

That's right, you'll be needing a trans...keep it out of D and use 4.

Yes, And the info you want is not that easy to come up with. The added horsepower is close to 10 and that should help, but haven't seen any data about improved MPG. I think you should be getting more than 200 mi. on a tank though. What % on the gas are you using? There are so many variables: Weight, type of gas (%), tires, and driver. Remember most of us bought the TRD cold air because we like the look and sound. We might not be objective.

Re: Trd Air Intake Info Please

I've towed my 5200 lb. center console, not using OD and I have no problems with it down shifting unless I'm going up a steep hill. The 20' boat has a lot of windage so it's a significant load. That's why I only did this 2X. I typically use my Ford Dually for tow duty.
