4.56 Axle gears & speedo recalibrate

Hello all,

Will be ordering an FJC this spring/summer. Test drove a 6M version last week - found 6th gear too tall for my liking (approx 2000 rpm at 100kph/62mph), and as will be putting 33's on I'll want even more revs.

Anyone put these gears in their axles yet? By my crunching I'll get around 2300 rpm at 100/62 and around 2650 rpm at 115/71 (with 33's), better for no-downshift passing and 6th gear towing.

Who did your axle gear swap - dealer or outside/aftermarket shop?

Also, who did your speedo recalibration? Did your dealer swap the tires for you or did you do it afterwards?

Cheers,

Dave

Since no one else has jumped in to help you, I will. There is a thread or two about this subject. The short version is:

1. There are no readymade kits yet.
2. All-Pro can get you set up if you have to do it right now
3. Several companies are rumored to be working on it, but it'll be a while

That's all I can remember about it. I'm more interested in the Inchworm transfer case that's available. The axle regearing has just been an offshoot interest for me.

Seriously, if you have questions about it, All-Pro seems to be really up on the why's and how's of re-gearing an FJ. Look for posts by Rockrawler if you choose to do some on-forum research. There is a post by him that explains it all very clearly.

Oh man, don't even get me started on posting a photo...

It's amazing, really, that I can even post a response on here.

Lot's of us are waiting on gears. Should be soon. I've been talking with the folks at Randy's RandP. Need skills to install so count on 700 to 1000 per diff installed. Good time to extend the snorkles and swap to synthetics too. Can't wait.
