I recently noticed a burning smell emanating from underneath my FJ. This occurred after trying to get the truck over a pile of plowed snow at the bottom of the driveway. Since the truck started from a dead stop I had to rev the engine and feather the clutch so the engine wouldn't stall . The smell didn't linger for long and after I drove awhile it was gone. This isn't my first clutch and I never had one smell before. Could I be mistaken and it's something else (transfer case)?
I you need to do something like that again put the FJ in 4 low turn it off and start the FJ in gear with the clutch out using the clutch override. This will get you moving and started with the clutch out. It prevents the wear on the clutch.
