Question First Oil change question?

My fast draining valve hasn't arrived yet and am anxious to get the first
oil change done...at 450 miles to get the metal shavings out. What size
is the Oil Drain bolt? Haven't been under the rigg much, but did at a recent Auto Show and freaked out the onlookers.. As I remember, I will need a socket with small extension to get at the bolt which is accessible through the oval cut-out?

Re: First Oil change question?

A 14MM deep socket should be all you need.

Thumbs up Re: First Oil change question?

Thanks OTHER1, that's an odd size, but am sure I have one somewhere one of my several socket and wrench sets.

Re: First Oil change question?

It's 14mm for sure, but you can take off the plastic cover, and use a socket with an extension.

There's a thread here, called "Oil Change", started by me last year. It got up to an insane length, but it had all sorts of info on oil filter sources, tips and tricks, etc.

Re: First Oil change question?

HEY all, there's a question I've been wondering about. I'm about to give my FJ it's frist oil change and I know there's that rubber stop on the drain resevoir around the oil filter. When you remove that plug and take off the oil filter, where does the oil go? How much comes out? Does it just drain all over the front of the engine, or can i go by rubber tubing to drain it to the oil pan?

Bingo. Fuel line or power steering hose works great; buy it for .25/foot at any auto parts store.
