engine noise

I’ve noticed that my engine is starting to have a slight humming sound and it also seems to have a ticking sound coming from it. I didn’t notice this before. Does anyone notice this with there fjs the dealer said it was normal but it is louder now then when I bought it

I was worried at first as well...From everyone that I've wheeled with, I hear the same thing...Toyota engines tick!! Now the humming is probably a dirty serp belt...I remember before I took mine off road it was silent...Now it sings a symphany!!

thanks for the info

I was reading some of the other related post and I noticed a post about the alternator one and the humming and ticking sound is coming from that side of the engine.

search for "Tapping at idle" and you will find your solution.

does the hum happen when u first accelerate then taper off or is it continuous,, if it tapers off it might be the VVT (as explained by the tech at the dealership)
I did hear the same type of noise on other fjs,, so I gues he wasn't giving me BS

Thanks for the help I’m going to look under the hood tomorrow. I’m new to the Toyota engines but I can tell you this I would never look back after driving my fj
