New Exhaust With PICS!!!!!

Ok so I had my FJ for 5 days before the bug hit me... No I hadnt even gone through my first tank of gas!!!

As some of yo may know the crossover pipe on the FJ is the lowest point on the truck, if you didn't here you go...

While the truck was on the lift I talked with the guys at the exhaust shop about what they thought, they recomended it be re-routed between the gas tank and the transfer case, so that is what I had them do, below you can see the full exhaust system.

I was concerned with the gas tank being so close to the exhaust, then I realized the "heat sheid" under the u joint is only a couple inces away from the pipe and is the same plastic as the fuel tank cover, below is the pic of the crossover pipe re-routed.

I initially was just going to do a muffler change, but once they put the truck on the lift and saw what Percy and Rooster and others had mentoined about the low pipe I figured it was best to change it before I ripped it off on a rock, I had a 14 inch Magnaflow installed probably a bit loud for some but I like it... I had them put on a turn-down and tuck it up underneath the bumper so you cant see the exhaust at all, I hate single exhaust and duals would not look right on the FJ in my opinion.... Finished exhaust below.

This is what it looks like with no tip...

I know I will not be the last to change the exhaust, probably wasnt the first either, best part is I got it all done for $275 a brand new full exhaust 2 1/2 inch to the mufler, 3 inch after... Picfked up some HP, seat of the pants meter is noticable...

If the Pics dont work they are in my gallery....

EDIT: As you can see I figured out the pic thing....

Re: New Exhaust With PICS!!!!!

great pics! where in norcal did you have this done? they did a great job. my only concern would be the heat being placed onto the transfercase.. but meh, looks like it wouldnt hurt

Exclamation Re: New Exhaust With PICS!!!!!

Are you intending on using your vehicle off-road? If so, reducing exhaust back-pressure may hurt more than it helps. Your low-end torque will be sacrificed to purchase the high end power. Does anyone know if you can install a butterfly valve in the exhaust to enhance back pressure at will and still run larger pipes? Just a thought. Several automotive makers have valves that adjust under WOT (motorcycles too) to enhance top-end power without sacrificing the advantage of low-end torque.

nice and the visual sre great.

did you notice any difference in torque peaking at higher RPMs with the larger pipes?

Seems to pull harder around 3500 - 5000, but that might just be because I can hear it, and as far as offroading goes the 10lbs of torque that I might have lost at 1500 - 2000 is really not much of an issue, if am going that slow the T-Case will be in 4 low with better gearing... 90% of this vehicles use will be on the street, so its someting I can live with,
