I understand your frustration, but to me $300 bucks is nothing compared to what I was paying for my Lexus to get it's interval services. I think I'm one of the few that wouldn't mind paying a couple hundred bucks after having that car in my driveway.
Took my FJ in for the 15,000 mile check, oil change, rotate tires, etc...why was my bill close to $300?!
Looking at the bill I saw something about gaskets and such, oh and they changed the wiper inserts at $7 a pop...thanks, I guess??!
Is anyone else keeping up with the maintenance schedule??
.....This is really funny that this subject comes up....I was thinking on posting also regarding the 15,000 mile service and how important might it be to have it looked at. I brought my FJ back to my dealer on wednesday....roughly 60 miles or so one way......anyways, I was originally heading back to the dealer because of a "gear" oil leak in my front end, not sure exactly what the component is called that WAS leaking but it was on the driverside, since they were guessing what it might have been without looking at it first.....they decided to order a gasket set come to find out it was back ordered.....so while I was there I decided to have my 15,000 mile check up.....minus the oil change since I do them myself.....once they had my FJ in the garage they declined to include the balancing of the tires because I replaced my original tires with BFG AT's. They claimed since the tires weren't original they wouldn't be able to charge toyota for the balancing......Honestly I thought this was B/S and pretty petty if you ask me!! I did manage to get a free alignment and they did rotate my tires but.....I don't see how they could have aligned the truck without balancing the tires first or at all for that matter!! so all in all I walked out of there about 3 hours later and was only charged 49.99......the leak was resolved by discovering that the screws (bolts) that hold the 2 piece case together were all loose.....they asked if I had been in there at all, I just about looked at the crosseyed and said.....why the hell would I be in there.....especially since it was burried between the engine and the front wheel......so to make this post EVEN longer.......I have waiting for a response from the same dealer since FEB 27'th regarding my paint flaking/chipping off the front pilliar area, the undercoating is also comming off in the driverside front wheel well, my rear bumper has some unusual markings on it from one side to the other.....looks like it's in the plastic since it can't be felt.....and also waiting to see what they do about the unusual wear on the back seat, across the whole front edge.......sorry for going on and on here but.....just wondering what others have to say about MY issues!!
Log into the Toyota Owners section of your dealers website and you will find coupons for this kind of stuff. $300 is the normal price, and they should do more than just gaskets IIRC. I think it includes valve adjustment too.

I hate to say, but if $300 is the cost for the 15K service, it's a bargin compared to my old FX35 15k service which cost about $700! Don't even ask what the 35k bill was!
BMT you are right, with the stealerships posting coupons on their sites and offering to match their competitors, you can get a lot done at a reduced rate. My first oil change cost $15 thanks to some coupon hunting. I even had coupon offer 20% off service/parts at one local dealer and then an additional 20% off installation at another (all within a half hour of each other).
You think 15k is bad, wait till the 30k service cost. BTW, where is Valkyrie?? He was a mainstay and had great insight to these questions since he has a different perspective than most of us. CALLING VALK, COME IN VALKYRIE!!
That seems cheap, the 30,000 mile service on the wife's RAV4 ran $900. That had the transmission service, coolant service, brake service, differential service, tire balancing and rotation plus a few other things.
The dealer charges alot for stuff that does not have the be done. I called about the 15k service, I don't need an alignment $90 saved, I don't need my tires rotated $80, I don't need my cabin air filter changed, $65 saved, I did need my oil changed $35.
If I needed any of those services, any place could do it for alot less.
Buy cabin air filter yourself $35
Rotate tires anywhere else $40
Alignment, get it done when I needs to be done, plus they are usually $75 or less
Their is no benefit of having the 15k done unless you need those items done, plus you could get them done for less else where.
The 30K checkup I beleves has some stuff that should be done by a dealer.
..... I did manage to get a free alignment and they did rotate my tires but.....I don't see how they could have aligned the truck without balancing the tires first or at all for that matter!!!!
Wheel alignment has nothing at all to do with wheel balancing. Neither one affects the other.
