Re: K&N intake system arrived today...

No doubt it will purrrrr just watch out when you get to step 22 the grommet they sent me was to small and I broke the stock crank case vent fitting trying to install it. Went to ToyToy the next day and they told me they don't sell that part and I would have to get a new factory intake for the bargain price of about 800.00 buckaroonies. Still love the sound and loved the additional power and mpg till I installed my lift and tires.

thanks for the insight... if there is a problem with it fitting, i'll go to our local hardward store and try to find a better size grommet... i've seen them there, just not sure what sized they have.

i did see that note about "this kit was not designed to fit vehicles with a body lift." what does that mean? why not?

Re: K&N intake system INSTALLED!!!

yes... it's very nice!

i would say that my grommet wasn't necessarily too small, but the hole that it went in was a bit too small... i used my dremmel with a burring tool to make the hole a little larger . just enough to slide in the part that goes in it (for #23 -- stock crank case vent fitting) to fit.

also, k&n left a few things out on their instructions! 1) attach the outside "L" bracket to the heat shield that houses the air filter and was attached to the bolt that was loosed under the power steering fluid... add to step 16... 2) one of the letters on the chart was misslabled (aluminum spacer on chart is labeled "V" and it should be a "W").

anyway, i got them all figured out! i would definitely say, "DON'T FORCE ANY OF THE PARTS TOGETHER..."

Re: K&N intake system arrived today...

I just installed the 63-9030 into my FJ as well. It looks, and sounds great. I'll still need some more time to evaluate the performance and mileage improvements.

The install was straightforward, and relatively easy except for step #23. The crank case vent fitting just does not fit with the hardware K&N provides. We tried to finesse it, by lubricating the grommet... no go. Then we tried brute strength, the weight of two men. After much effort the vent fitting broke!?!

I’m not exactly sure which of the 3 components is too small vs. large, but when I called K&N and described the problem; they quickly offered to send me out a new grommet. Seems like they may have included a grommet #082000, which is too small for its specific application. I'd urge anyone who has bought this kit to call K&N's 800 number for clarification, and possible replacement parts.
