I know that having a sport clutch for M/T is really good but was wondering if this clutch would have any good benefit for A/T?
You're joking, right?

Re: Spec Aftermarket Clutch (Stage 3+)

OK..finally got it installed and so far so good. There is no Pilot bearing for the flywheel and my FW looked aok after 41k miles so we went ahead and installed it. Only about 58 miles on it so far and 1st and reverse are chunky a bit with some chattering sound, sometimes a lot sometimes barley any. It is jerky but as the first post said, takes time to break in. Will let everyone know how it feels during the break-in and if it gets better and better which I hope it will. Second through sixth is a dream......

Re: Spec Aftermarket Clutch (Stage 3+)

isnt that normal through for the FJ that first gear is just clunky in general? My first gear I swear it feels like theres a stop gate on there and it does not slide into gear as good as say from 2nd all the way to 6th it seems.

Re: Spec Aftermarket Clutch

Ok, at 280 miles now.....getting muuuuuuch better. The short shift kit with that clutch is feeling much more precise. The 1st gear chudder (chatter??) is still there but down about 60% from the start. Reverse got better before 1st, gues sdue to being a longer gear. I really hope the next 220 miles go well and she smooths out to close to stock. I do not mind the sensitivity of the clutch but that chudder sound makes me feel a bit foolish like I am not taking care of my poor fj. Also, stalling at lights with that freakn clutch was choice...Made me feel like a champ but man it was SENSITIVE!! I attached a pic of the rig as well just for sh&ts and Giggles.

If I read your previous post correctly, you installed the new clutch kit without resurfacing the flywheel.

While it might look ok to the human eye, I am pretty sure that at 41K miles there where some highs and lows.

The chatter you hear is the surfaces mating and your right as you drive it more the surface on the clutch will smooth out but it will cause your clutch to loose more life than it should.

Hope this helps.

Luis

The flywheel was in fact re-surfaced prior to being re-installed. Exactly as per Spec's instructions so all good there. At 420 miles now and just keeps getting smoother and smoother.....after a day in the dunes she should be pretty much worn in I think. Hopefully will be much better then the stock one. That thing heated up so fast and started to smoke just after a couple of tries trying to get unstuck.....not so good with the aftermarket tires and such... Thanks.

Re: Spec Aftermarket Clutch

Ok, now at 1398 miles.....finally the thing is not chirp'n and chuddering anymore....seems to be just like stock except freak'n grabby when you rev the FJ up. It sometimes has a low low chirp once in awhile still but easily livable and I think it will eventually disappear. 4x4'n in the dunes this weekend so should be pretty much good to go after that. Anyway, won't go back to the stock one anymore, not after feeling this one. Although I was kinda worried about the chudder and chirp'n lasting so long on the break in.....but I guess that is just the way it is.
