Fuel Additive

As many have posted under cleaning topics, I've learned that not all dash/plastic/leather treatments are equal. I'm hoping to get some similar input on fuel additives. What do you guys use for fuel system cleaners?

I purchased Champions Complete Fuel System Cleaner (valves, injectors, combustion chamber) "Powerful Synthetic Formula"

Any thoughts objections? There's quite a price difference between some of the brands available and I just want to use the best there is, and not always is the most expensive the best product out there.

Re: Fuel Additive

Have you put on enough miles to warrent it?
Are you running bad gas?
Any signs or symptoms of performance loss or issues?
Just curious why you are looking at something like this?
Having come from a high performance background with street rods, road racing (completed in the Silver State Challenge and Pony Express in Nevada...modern Cannon Ball Run)...built blown big blocks and TPI small blocks....well I liked getting more octane but switching fuel is best for that...
If storing long term then a stabilizer works but not sure if the injector cleaner stuff works that well.
Oh well I look forward to the greater minds than mine chiming in..

Re: Fuel Additive

Lance, I just hit 15k on my vehicle, I don't run the highest octane gas all the time, and since I'm doing another oil change I had engine performance/cleanliness on my mind. The impulse grabbed me and I picked up some additive. No real engine performance issues, I just know that as a rule of thumb, preventative treatment is better/cheaper/easier than symptomatic treatment.

Do you still think I shouldn't use it?

Re: Fuel Additive

I use berryman chemtool for injector cleaning every once in a while. However, be warned....this stuff is hard on seals....don't over use it. Also, put it in your tank about 1 tank before you plan to change the oil. All the crap that's coming off the injectors is deposited in your oil, so change the oil when you've burned up that tank.

HTH,
Sean

I'm headed to Tucson Sunday, so I'll make sure I drop it in tomorrow and change the oil when I get back. That's something I never thought of. Good info.

What are you going to do here? I would be happy to direct you to some good wheeling if you are interested. LMK.

My parents still live in Tucson and I'm going down for a regular Italian Sunday dinner. And to pick up some of their camping stuff for Ouray.

And where the hell were you two months ago?! I just moved up here first of June!

Re: Fuel Additive

I thought I remember reading somewhere if you use to often it will make one of the sensors go bad. Don't quote me on it though.

Re: Fuel Additive

Make sure the stuff you buy doesn't contain alcohol, like SeanK mentiond it is the alcohol that is hard on the seals.
