First oil change completed

I just had the oil changed for the first time. 900 miles on the clock. I did this because the engine is new and I know that a new motor can have some left overs from machining and assembly. The dealers work order states that they used mobile 5W30. I assume that they used Mobile 1 synthetic. Should I keep it on a diet of this?
I love my FJ. It has to be the best machine I have ever owned, next to my 1973 Pontiac Trans Am.
I traded in a 2004 4X4 Ranger and there is no comparison in the quality.
I will start the mods in about a week. 1st is the stereo, most of which I have already. Next will be tires, wheels and a lift kit. I'm thinking an OME 3" will be the ticket.
This is the best site I have found that deals with our beloved FJ's. All the info offered by members is great. Its just like being on the Pontiac forum that I'm a member of without all the puriest vs. modified BS.

Re: First oil change completed

I would certainly not assume they used Mobil 1.

I'd bet money they used dino Mobil 5w30.

Re: First oil change completed

I know the amount they charged you seems like it's comparable to a box of Mobil 1, but for all you know it was diet mountain dew and cornstarch. And the oil filter was probably something in the vicinity of Fram in terms of poor quality.

You should change your own oil next time so that you know what's going in the truck. If you keep receipts, so that the dealer knows what's going in too, then you're cool on the warranty.

I switched to Mobil 1 after 4700 miles, installed an oil spout in the drain pan for easier future changes, and went with the wix filter. Check out the "oil changes" thread for everything you ever/never wanted to know about changing oil on the FJ.

It's pretty easy, as far as car stuff goes. You may want to get a set of heavy duty wheel ramps so that your first change is easier.

???????

I've used M1 as well as other oils both Dino and Synthetic since 1984. The conditions under which I drive in range from -19F to +115. M1 is good chit for the money. Are there better, yes. A good compromise in my experience.

You don't even need to raise the front of the FJ to change the oil. There's enough room for big guy like me to slide under there and get to the pan bolt. The FJ is really easy to change IMHO. Only takes a few minutes.

Mobil 1 is good stuff. What I was laughing at was assuming they used Mobil 1 which they won't unless you ask for it and even then who knows for sure. I change my own oil. DEWFPO, you anywhere near Loveland? My brother lived there and I was impressed with the land of big sky. A lot of cracked windshields out there.

Hi RomaBoy,

I live near Glenwood Springs on the western side of the rockies. Yeah, lots of good opportuniies to get broken windshields here. There's plenty of 'pea' gravel on most paved roads all year round here, as well I drive on many gravel roads. I know it's going to happen, just a matter of time. Plenty of hits, a few chips, but so far no cracks. I'm driving to Durango this weekend, so 500 miles of crack opportunites await me.

Mine isn't lifted and I'm running stock rubber, so I had some trouble squeezing under it. I've got the ramps anyway, so why not. Plus I can use the creeper (wheeee!) if it's raised up.
