is the transmission fluid in my 07 fj dexron vi ?

is the trans fluid in the fj's dex iii or dex vi or maybe even something else? owners manual just gives some toyota part number that doesn't mean sh*& if you don't call the dealer. the new dexron vi has been out in the auto parts stores for a while now. anyone know if toyota recomends this change? gm is recomending this for all of their vehicles that use dex iii in the tranny's. i have done it in my avalanche 2500 and noticed a great shift improvement but i'm not so sure about changing it in my 07 fj yet. i'm still trying to get used to that dam downshifting the fj auto tranny does.

The atf in the FJ is a synthetic called Toyota WS. So far, no one else makes a replacement. Toyota says it's good for 100K. I'd change it at 50K at a minumum if 4 wheeling.

The trans fluid in the FJC is TOYOTA SPECIFIC - it is NOT dex iii / iv or anything else. I talked in depth to the engineer at RedLine Synthetic, and they can't make an equivilant replacement product until Toyota releases the additive contents of its proprietary mix. So, if you want to change it, be ready, at the present time, to fork over some cash at the Toyota dealer.

Talking Re: is the transmission fluid in my 07 fj dexron vi ?

thanks guys. that makes sense. gm did the same thing with dexron vi. they patent it for a couple of years and it does become commercially available when the patent runs out. gm's patent on dexron vi just ran out in the spring and it just became available over the counter at the auto parts stores this month. sounds like toyota has taken the same route. once their patent runs out, they will release the formula to the masses and it will show up on the auto parts stores shelves. i thought toyotas in the past had used dexron iii so i was assuming that the newer toyotas were still using some version of dexron but that doesn't seem to be the case here. toyota seems to be doing their own thing. i put the new dex vi that gm is recomending in my avalanche 2500 and my vette and the shift improvement was remarkable.
