Yeah, the procedure to drop the tank is listed in the Fuel section of the factory manual.

Re: Fuel Filter..is it hard to get to and change?

Seems like adding an inline filter would be a good idea--like a big oil can sized Bosch or some other heavy duty filter designed for higher pressure fuel injected systems.

Then a blast of Techron every 5 to 10-k.

Re: Fuel Filter..is it hard to get to and change?

NYCTRD is right make sure it is for fuel injected vehicles not just one that you clamp in place with gear clamps. Check summit or even your local parts store. with some stainless (I perfer brass could work too) fittings, tubing (3/8??) and a common GM fuel filter (wix 33481) you could install on the frame between the engine and the tank. If you do so make sure the system is depressured prior to starting. There are systems out there you may have to check around, parts stores, mechanic shops, aguraculture or heavy implament dealers too. Stay away from the Canadian Tires and Generic store. If they sell lumber, plants and auto parts they may not know what your talking about. Hope this helps

Actually, there is access to the fuel pump assembly from the top, under the rear seats. I am not sure if is enough to be able to pull the pump assembly out and replace though.

Re: Fuel Filter..is it hard to get to and change?

Hey-It's all about keeping your "precious bodily fluids" clean!~

I've never owned a vehicle without a friggin' fuel filter (the in-tank filter can't be much more than a fine screen)...

These annoying little ommisions (like a dipstick for the AT, lack of a higher rear breather, etc.) are absurd for a vehicle positioned as "rugged".

I'm moving to Austrailia!

Re: Fuel Filter..is it hard to get to and change?

I remember that there were some screens in funnels that would trap water from fuel. I wonder if there is a similar screen that could be placed in the filler neck?????

cheers,

dale

Re: Fuel Filter..is it hard to get to and change?

This is my third Toyota 4x4 and sold the first two at 8 and 9 years old with over 450,000kms (approx.270,000mi)on each. I can honestly say I never changed a fuel filter. The filter on the 2.7 ('98 Tacoma) was the size of a large oil filter with high pressure banjo fittings at either end that was bolted to the side of the block...My local mechanic said he had never even heard of one needing changing.....Let's hope that Toyota has the same engineering ideals in mind for this set up.
