I had JBA headers installed today.
check engine" light and several other warnings lights are burning.
I have disconnected de battery already a few times but doesn’t work.
Re: JBA Headres and now the engine lights are burning
I had the same problem after my install. The issue is usually your O2 sensors are fuzzed up. What might have happened, as mine did, was the exhaust installer welded while the sensors were installed. The sensors don't like welding near them. Once a sensor goes bad you can't just clean it up. You'll need a new one! You can run the truck with a bad sensor or two for a week or two but your mpg's will suck.
Take it to Autozone/Pep Boys and have them check the trouble codes. There are 3 sensors on each exhaust bank for a total of 6 sensors. Bank 1 is the passenger side exhaust, bank 2 is the driver side. The sensors are numbered 1 through 3 with number 1 being the Air-Fuel Ratio or AFR sensor which is now attached to your header. The AFR sensor is the pricey one at over $300 just for the part! It looks like a regular O2 sensor but it is not! It's wired different and operates differently! Sensor 2 is just after the first cataltic converter. Sensor 3 is after the last catalitic. Sensors 2 and 3 run about $130-$150 each. If the sensor was fugged up by the installer, which it probably was, demand that your installer replace it at no cost to you. (If you buy the sensors yourself, buy them from Toyota! You'll get the right part cheaper than most auto parts stores. The after-market AFR sensor wasn't available when I did mine a couple months back.)
If you decide to replace them yourself, you'll need a 7/8th's inch closed end wrench and a ton of bust rust/penetrating oil. (WD40 will not help you!) Park your rig, disconnect the battery, find the offending sensor and liberally spray it down at the bung with the oil. Before wrenching on the exhaust make sure it is cool to the touch!! After the exhaust is cooled, spray the bung again and wait a few minutes for it to penetrate. Disconnect the sensor plug and place the closed end wrench over the sensor and remove it. Be careful not to gall the threads in the bung, if you do then you'd have to re-tap the threads. If you gall the threads on the old sensor its no big deal. Carefully install the new sensor and tighten to 1 to 1 1/2 turns past hand tight. Plug in the sensor and you're good to go!
Re: JBA Headres and now the engine lights are burning
I got mine installed at Midas. I was sure to tell them about removing both banks of O2 sensors, thanks for the tip. The welder said that it will take some time for the computer to relearn the new exhaust system and that the check engine light may come on. He said to call with the scangauge codes if that happens and doesn't go off after 25 miles.
Re: JBA Headres and now the engine lights are burning
Same thing happened when they installed my JBA headers. Engine light, all the trouble lights came on. The mech hooked up a laptop to the OBDII and ran a piece of software and poof all lights are off. Thing runs like a scalded dog,no lights since.
