air intakes -- can you even notice?

I often question whether you can actually notice an 8HP bump from these air intakes -- from those of you that have them, can you? How does it affect your gas mileage?

It is noticeable and a tiny bit of a mileage increase.

Re: air intakes -- can you even notice?

If you can keep your right foot from being heavy, you will see some improvement over stock. At WOT the sound is amazing.

Re: air intakes -- can you even notice?

i got a little power from the TRD CAI. it helped going up hills and made it easier to drive around town and to keep my heavy truck rolling at freeway speeds

Re: air intakes -- can you even notice?

I got the AFE Intake and the rubber plug too. Definitely helps the FJ breathe better. I felt a nice power gain! I have the 6MT, not sure if that made a difference or not in feeling the power.... I don't have to downshift much at all on a hilly highway. The sound is cool. Mileage...meh I didn't notice an increase.

Re: air intakes -- can you even notice?

It depends. Do you have a automatic or six speed. You will notice it more in a stick. I noticed power, not dramatic, but power nonetheless; Especially at highway speeds when passing where the stock FJ struggles, You will love the sound it produces. IMO the sound is worth it alone. Coupled with headers, and exhaust you WILL feel an improvement. Get it. you'll be happy. It looks cool too!

Re: air intakes -- can you even notice?

I have the TRD CAI and it feels subjectively like the engine has more power, but it may only be an illusion. Don't know if it improved mileage as I installed it right after I bought the FJ, so I don't have a good benchmark to compare.

Yes, it is loud when you punch it and get up into the 3.500 rpm range and beyond. I haven't figured out if the sound is coming from the engine or from the exhaust. Maybe it's some of each. The FJ used to purr, now it growls!
