Just Filled Rear Diff - Took 3.7 Qt's

Just Filled Rear Diff - Took 3.7 Qt's - this sound about right?
Auto/4wd/w locker.....

I thought 3.1???

Let it drain for 2 hours.....
Then filled it until it started coming out of the fill hole.....

Am I ok?

Thanks, techno

Have not done mine yet, but I can tell you that you did it the right way (could have been just under the hole, but up to it is fine).
I would guess that it is close to the 3.1 if ya don't let it sit for 2 hours. Ten min. and sone old stuff might still cling on.

The out should match the in.

I had a similar experience...think I put in 3.5 Qts before I could feel it at the bottom of filler hole. That was 2500 miles ago and no issues, so I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Re: Just Filled Rear Diff - Took 3.7 Qt's

Just realized car was not level facing down driveway at a slight incline.....

So I went out there and took off the filler plug and siphoned about .4 QTS out of it. So I got about 3.3 QTS in there now. (I think I am being a little anal about this)

Put the filler plug back on with a new washer.....

DONE.....

Now eventually need to do the transfer case and front diff.....

Have you noticed any more "smoothness" with the new oils?

I used Mobil 1 Synth 75-90

thanks, techno

Re: Just Filled Rear Diff - Took 3.7 Qt's

I was gonna ask if you were on flat ground. I did mine and replaced it with 3 quarts of RP. After letting it drain for quite a while, the 3 quarts brought it right up to the fill line.

WHAT? When all else fails, read the directions? WE ARE MEN! WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING DIRECTIONS!

I think as long as you fill it up to the drain hole, on level ground, you are fine!

Couple problems with your comment

A) He has the locker so it should have taken less accordng to you instead of the more that he is asking about so his question would still be valid.

B) locker vs. no locker wasn't part of the equation as it was answered by the OP himself what the problem turned out to be (unlevel), try reading the thread before you offer your council that he should read the manual.
