How many miles will the FJ go once the low fuel light comes on....
In my Tahoe I was doomed once that light came on.... you had to get fuel like now....

Any one experimented with this???

Re: Low Fuel Light

Fill up your FJ with gas right when it comes on
take that number of gallons, subtract it from 19 (tank size)

Multiply the answer by how many miles per gallon you are getting.

The average is about 60 miles left (about 4 gallons of gas)

Re: Low Fuel Light

I'm guessing maybe around 50miles more or less depends on how you drive? My light turned on at around 275miles one time and I kept on going to about 325miles, got really nervous with the needle right under the last "Empty" line and filled her up. Dont reccommend doing that but hey gas is really high lately

Re: Low Fuel Light

When that light came on for me I went to fill 'er up and got in about 15 gallons before the pump tripped. That means there was around 3 gallons left. This may not be entirely accurate, however, as I have read about cases where the sensor is likely to stop filling the FJ too soon.

Re: Low Fuel Light

My experience has been that when the light come on, I've got 3.9 gallons left in the tank. I've validated this using the "immediate fillup" method, and (isn't science wonderful?) this figure matches the Gallons to Empty displayed by my ScanGauge II.

Re: Low Fuel Light

When I first got the FJ, the gas light would come on right around the 1/4 mark. That was when I was getting 14-15mpg. Now, my mpg is around 17-18 and it comes on just shy of the E, by which time I have around 4 gallons like everyone states. You guys think it might go on depending on miles to empty rather than gallons left? Or is this just the break-in computer program? Would be interesting...

Re: Low Fuel Light

it's not good to run on a dry tank. especially on a high mileage car. You'll be burning junk from the bottom of the tank and not good for the fuel system.. at least this is what I've heard.

Won't hurt a Toyota, they use fuel filters and self-priming fuel pumps. Done many times in most of the many Toyotas I've owned over the years.
