5K mile service

Had the 5k Mile service done at the dealership yesterday.
Oil and Filter change, Tire rotation, and they washed it. $58.xx. Sure it was a little more then doing it myself, but I was treated really well and it was fast.
Oh and no I did not rotate the spare in. Reason being is that when it is time to have need a "spare" I will have one that has not seen the road.

Re: 5K mile service

IMO I think its better to rotate the spare, it keeps the wear even when you do need it and you will get more life out of a 5 than 4 because they will each take a break on the rack.

Im doing mine this weekend, I got a coupon for 10 bucks off that price.

Another option for each 5K is to get the quick lube oil change at the dealer, they do the same thing minus the tire rotation, the cost is $29. You can get that free at Discount Tire.

X2,

Why don't you want to use your spare in rotation? Toyota actually recommends it.

Service Manager talked me out it. Sure they just didn't want to do the work. Besides I am sure they would not have lined up the emblem on the center cap when they went to put the "spare" on the rack.

JTAP your right the coupon sitting on my kitchen table would have saved me a couple of bucks.

You have to take the cap on and off to take off wheels without scratching the cap. You could have rotated the cap in about 10 seconds.
x3 on adding the spare. You'll get a lot more miles out of your tires if you include it in the rotation. I have 5 bfgs for this reason.

I think for 58 you got a decent deal.
car wash ~15
oil change and filter ~30
tire rotation ~20
I mean you didn't get ripped off at all. I would ask them next time what oil you are getting (this is a big factor in the price).

Your right on rotating the wheel on the back about to align the emblem I did that when I first brought it home. I have the duncraps on there so if they wear out my feelings are not hurt. Or I could get get some new shoes for it and somebody would be getting a fresh tire on those five rims.

Your right about oil. I just got the stock penzoil 5w-30. The invoice said $ 2.69/qt. and 7 qts. WHAT ? What did I expect ! sure Mobil 1 synthetic would have be great but I have a 91 toyota 4x4 pick up that only recently had seen synthetic and the compression is still great on that thing with 189K miles.

I think all of the comments are great. Just putting my $.02 out there for others to have the knowledge when its time for service.

The guy even offered me the shuttle, his FJ or done in under 30min. I was satisfied.
