TruFilter Oil System

I am giving this a try. My initial impression with the quailty is very good. It is really nice to look at too. The filter is fully servicable and cleaning the screen is very easy. Just use soap and water or an appropriate cleaning agent. You need to use a rubber adjustable filter wrench to remove it, otherwise you risk unscrewing the cap and leaving the base still screwed in. I'll post up a pic of the type of wrench that will prevent this problem. It is supposed to provide superior filtration and flow rate over any paper media filter. Nothing to throw away means you save money and the environment. I will keep you all posted on what I think of this filtration system and if I recommend it after I have some experience with it on the truck. So far so good. It sure does dress up the engine compartment nicely!

Re: TruFilter Oil System

That looks really slick!

I'm going to check it out. Getting one of those would prevent another quick change shop from trying to rip me off by NOT changing the oil filter again.

Re: TruFilter Oil System

Toledo -

I noticed in your last picture you have a Hyper Voltage System box mounted on your battery. What are your thoughts on that product?

Thanks,
Jake

That's all that TruFilter says you need to do to remove the filter-- just unscrew the cap and leave the base screwed in. See: Paragraph 14 of the FAQs on TruFilter's site.

Makes sense to me. I wouldn't like having to remove and risk marring the finish on the finish of the base each time that I want to clean the filter, especially since they already provide a cap to allow easy removal of the filter.

It looks nice, do you have the micron filtration specs?

This is not my thread, but I just read this info on TruFilter's site too.

The answer is 35 microns and the flow rate through 1 sq/inch of the filter material is 1.9 gallons/min at only 1 psi @ 70 degrees F. Sounds pretty good to me. See: Paragraphs 3 and 4 of TruFilter's FAQS. The link is embedded in my post above.

Re: TruFilter Oil System

Very interesting...I'd need to see comparisons of these vs say the Mobile 1 filters or Toyotas ones, I'd be VERY surprised if it filters better than those. Where did you buy this?

Re: TruFilter Oil System

I ordered mine from performanceproducts4trucks.com They have the best price at $139. Yeah, you can just remove the top and leave the base in place. But if you need to remove the base for whatever reason, you will need that rubber strap wrench. It doesn't damage the surface to take it on and off as far as I can tell. The gasket makes most of the contact, so it isn't like you have metal grinding on metal. I'm still researching these, so I'm not %100 sold on them yet. I need to go to the local race shop to get new oil. I'll see what they think of the trufilter compared to filters like the mobile 1

Re: TruFilter Oil System

35 microns, those are still some good size chunks floating around in your oil. Had you considered using magnetic filters? They filter to below 1 micron with little or no flow restriction. The better ones, spin on in front of your favorite spin on oil filter. Check broncograveyard.com, JC Whitney or Northern Tool for their spin on magnetic filters. They also have in-line magnetic filters for cooler line installations. I have used them on power steering and auto trans.
