Re: TRD Cold Air Intake

I am running behind on mods but I can say that the TRD CAI was one that I am glad I did. When you hook it up with JBA Headers, and a catback you shock everyone when you are merging.

Gas mileage is good to...even with Costco gas I got 18.3 last week and that was stomping on it a few times merging on the freeway.

Re: TRD Cold Air Intake

Will the TRD air cleaner work with the TRD supercharger? I want both but would get the air cleaner first since I havent won the PowerBall Lottery!
Don't want to buy the air cleaner and have to give it away after getting the s/c.
Whats the best going rate/place for the air cleaner buy??

After a good extended road trip on my stock motored FJ (as opposed to work and back) I see the motor really falls off on power on grades and the tranny compensates by hunting for a numerically lower gear...I would think boosting the torque of the engine via air cleaner, exhaust mods should help. If not then I believe this is why they leave you wanting for a 3600.00 supercharger!!

I have heard mixed results on the forum. Reading some places that it will not, and some saying that it will. From the looks of it, the way the CAI connects would not interfere with the S/C.

Also, my FJ cannot make it up a single overpass on the interstate when in cruise control. This has nothing to do with the FJ having been running for an extended period of time. It did this when it was stock as well. To reduce this, tap the cruise control lever down every couple seconds when going up a overpass. You will save on gas as you are now not downshifting all the time. The cruise control on the FJ is the worst i have seen in any vehicle ever.

It is not a concealed box. You have a hole in the wheel well that goes to a hole in the engine compartment (where the stock and TRD CAI box meet the fender) The TRD CAI box has an opening on the side towards the fender. This is where it get the cold air from (coming from the fenderwell).

Re: TRD Cold Air Intake

Ha. Layonn, I like your comment about cruise control. Being from the Midwest, I never had to worry about hills or mountains on the interstate... then I drove on I-70 to Colorado. I thought the cruise control was going crazy. It just couldn't handle all the up and down shifting, flooring it, and coasting. Eventually I realized that I had to take it out of cruise control and put it in 4th. Couldn't even get enough power in overdrive.

Re: TRD Cold Air Intake

the cruise is useless and wierd on hills, but you do have 35 inch tires! Those take power to keep em going.

Re: TRD Cold Air Intake

Just to comment about the supercharger, for whatever reason Toyota is only recommending the stock air box at the moment. That's probably what they figure the overwhelming majority of people will be using and used that for testing (just a guess!). I would have to say the CAI could only help the supercharger.
