JBA Headers and Exhaust Installed! :)

After much research, I finally had my JBA headers and exhaust installed. I followed advice of several board members and asked the mechanic to unplug the o2 sensors while he was welding and had him flare the cat nose around the tail of the header tube for better flow. The mechanic did a really good job and even asked if I wanted the exhaust welded so I wouldn't have any rattling or leak issues. The entire job ran me $400.00 which may not be the cheapest around, but I feel money well spent to know it was done right.

The results are excellent. The tone of the exhaust is now very full and deep. I have to say the loudest thing on the truck is still my CAI however. As for power, I definitely notice a difference. A board member mentioned earlier this week that merging onto highways can be done with ease with this mod and I happen to agree that's a very good description. The engine gets up to 60/70 mph cruising speed without issue.
If anyone's in North Jersey and looking for a shop, I will gladly recommend the guy I used. Anyone else with these or similar mods, please chime in!

Congrats on your exhaust mods, sounds like something that I would like to do in the future. I am in Albuquerque, NM so I have an immediate power loss due to altitude, it's like a 3% loss for every thousand feet above sea level. I am from Jersey, Bergen County, how about yourself?

That's insane. Someone needs to design an oxygen tank for your rig.
Glad to see someone else from the area. Mahwah here!

And I believe these mods are important for setting the stage for the supercharger, so they should be well worth it.

Did you assist the shop guy with the Header install? If so - was it extremely difficult? I was thinking about doing this down the road but not sure I want to go through the trouble.
Thanks.

Superchargers are the way to beat power loss due to elevation.

Nah. I'm not really all that knowledgeable when it comes to mechanics. If you read my other post, I had to ask people on here about all the cats staying on truck because I didn't know. Not to mention, I don't weld, or have a machine that can flare a pipe. I can tell you I dropped my car off at 8am and it was done by 2pm.

to Bayonne.

And Toledo's setup is actually what I'm shooting for. Although if I ever get to the supercharger, I'd like to take a look at that URD pulley. Another 1-2 psi boost?

Re: JBA Headers and Exhaust Installed! :)

I have a question actually if anyone knows the answer, it would be much appreciated. I know whenever you do an engine mod, you should unhook the battery to reset the computer. Case in point, aftermarket CAI's. Since this is technically the exhaust, I didn't know if it even comes into play.

From what I understand (this means I may be wrong ) the computer will gradually tune it over time anyway. Personally I think completely resetting the ECU will take longer for your FJ to sort itself out, than to just let it learn on the fly, in regards to exhaust mods which are not so drastic...
