After having seen a friend turbo charge his scion tc I have decided it would be cool to turbo the Fj. But i dont want to spend 5grand on a supercharger so it seems a turbo charger is better in this case for me. I dont drive that much offroad anymore but would like to be able to be a little quicker on the road. So I found this kit on ebay for $1100 but you have to build it yourself, let me know if you think it would be able to work on the Fj. that looks and reads well, but a) thats an awful lot of parts, b) havent ever seen one, or heard of anyone else having one...it also bosts high gains...BUT, is cheaper the the sc

well they also sell a stage 1 kit which has a lot less parts and runs at 8lbs. of boost so it seems more compatible and easier to build for the FJ. The stage 1 kit I believe is $900, im going to look into how difficult it would be to make this happen. So will see...
Couple things it doesnt have the the TRD supercharger does.
1. a new intake manifold. The TRD intake manifold is all aluminum and is seriously bolted down to the top of the engine. It looks as though this just uses the stock intake manifold.
The problems i see with that. The stock I.M. (intake manifold) is NOT designed to support compressed air running into the intake. I could potentially see compressed air leaking through here.
2. How come it doesn't address fuel delivery? The TRD comes with higher flow injectors and iridium spark plugs.
3. The x-runner guys have been modifying the 4.0L for a while before the FJ came out. The consensus i got from over there was that the max boost you wanna run without redoing the entire engine of more high performance parts was 7-8 psi. 8 is the minimum in this kit.
If you really want to add horsepower to your FJ and don't care about the engine warranty, i'd personally go with the URD's new supercharger.

That would be cool, the only downside is that because it only includes one turbine, you need to routed all the way back where the 2 exhaust pipes meet, and i think that might be a whole lot of pipes.
But for the price i don't think is that bad, I say go for it, and please let us know how it goes.
Well i looked into the URD supercharger and it doesnt list anything on URD's website about it. I would prefer to get the URD but it doesnt seem that they have made it for the FJ yet.
Too good to be true. NO way can a complete turbo kit cost $1000 bucks. It's a bunch of Chinese made crap thrown together. Plus, I think it is missing some very important components... like as others mentioned, fuel delivery. Then you have to have something manage the added air/fuel mixture. You're looking at a $1000 bucks right there... and another $1000 probably to get it custom tuned properly. And when it completely blows your motor because one of those cheap parts fails.... who's gonna be SOL? YOU.
Unless you really know what you are doing.... Get something proven and safe. There is no magic cheap answer to more power.... EVER!
